86 came back $510 bill (255 GBP) which included full service, new wipers (smearing already within 100kms), new air filter, cabin filter and a check over the driver's seat (starting to creak figured it was either coming slightly loose or wearing out) and a look at the noise from the exhaust.

Driver's seat fine so my fat ass is just wearing it out.

Exhaust was a fucking fiasco. Stood there with the service receiver/concierge man and literally showed him what was wrong with it - at tickover as the revs rise and fall while the aircon compressor kicks in and out there's a buzz from the exhaust - annoying as fuck in traffic. I went to collect it and the tech came out to tell me he'd taken it for a test drive and couldn't hear any issues with the exhaust. So I started it up and promptly told him he was wrong.

Cue me stood in the carpark for 90mins while they tried to figure it out at closing time instead of the concierge bloke having done his job properly. Anyway, turns out suspected baffle in the TRD stainless exhaust is gone. Several thousands of dollars for a new TRD exhaust (kinda needed as the whole bumper is different on cars with the TRD exhaust, alternative is to fit something else and it either look shit or require a whole redo of the rear bumper) or I need to find a man with an angle grinder to cut it all open, fix it and weld it back up.

Mulling over swapping the Jag XF + Boxster S for a Giulia (i.e. averaging the big saloon + small sports car to make a small sports saloon), although I am never sure it's a good idea to buy a car you struggle to spell.

Not many options for good food in Crewe at the best of times, this was a handy departure point. Egg sarnie was my best option

Civic update:

After the cold spell a while back, I didn't trust the solar trickle charger on the Civic, and no surprise the battery was dead. Charged it all up and all seemed good until i tried to start the car last weekend. Just cranked and not even and attempt to fire. After a few attempts it dawned on me that the car never struggles like that, and then I realised the green immobiliser light wasn't going out..

Some internetage later, it appears the keys had lost their coding.. Just aswum.

RAC guy came out and tested his kit, no joy, ECU just wasn't letting him in so it had to go Honda this week for a full recode. £99 up in smoke, thanks to the crap solar panel trickle charger.

£1000 spent on 4 airbags for the ML as 2 have a slight leak. Bought some Arnott bags as the other makes, Aerosus and some re-branded stuff seem to have a tendency to go bang. Arnott seem to be the absolute best.

There is a slight knock only when going over speed bumps so I’ll probably change the drop links and arb bushes at the same time, it’s done nearly 130,000 miles now so not a surprise it may need a little refresh.

when you say airbags, you mean suspension yeah?! I got very confused at first thinking "how would you know if your (passenger safety) airbags are leaking?!"

Yes very much so, really I should have said Air Springs.

I’ve no idea what they are valued at to be honest. The value is in what the car does for me rather than what it sells for.
(Edit)Seems between 6 and 7k, so 1k a year depreciation(edit)

It’s been a good bus and I can’t find anything to replace it with which won’t cost me a fortune. Modern stuff doesn’t really do much for me bar RS6, E63 etc etc and the running costs of them are huge compared to this.

So 3 months on and the XF is growing on me more and more.

It needs to make more noise though, I hate quiet cars, if you accidentally hit a gearshift paddle, and it goes into manual, it's so quiet and smooth you don't realise until you look at the rev counter sat at 4500 rpm that you've done it 🙄

Also I think it may be the best car I've ever had MPG wise.

Went to Keelham farm shop in Skipton (10 mile each way) for our normal Friday shop and I thought I'd reset the trip as I filled up.

52.3 MPG on the journey there and back. And the trip computer is pretty accurate from the last brim to brim calculation I did

Not bad going for a near 300hp car that weighs 1800 kg.

Wonder what it would be like with a freer flowing exhaust and a bit of fettling........

Be interested to know if that leather stuff is any good.

I always used Gliptone leather cleaner and treatment because it smells so good, I've just bought and tried Auto Finesses clean and treatment and it doesn't seem as good as the Gliptone stuff tbh.

Yeah I'm not a polisher usually so haven't really got anything to compare it to, sorry! They look better and have lifted a lot of crap so quite pleased, but it appears there's no substitute for elbow grease in getting the worst out so I'm now knackered :D

They may be leather but it’s painted leather so don’t start feeding them etc.

It's running right, will be clean outside as well as in by tomorrow... 'just' need to sort the leak on the passenger side and I'll be happy 8-) (it's under the battery tray I think, and I may need some professional assistance :( )

Cheers, bit of a useless comparison below as drivers side was much worse than the passenger side and probably still is.
