I think I've made my philosophy clear before, but I endeavour to do the right thing, and I believe that most others do too. I'm certainly not going to start judging others harshly, and I'll keep believing that the vast majority are using their common sense.

I don't know Revs, but I know mik, and certainly consider him to be one of the more (for want of a better term) grown up members of the forum. I simply don't believe he wouldn't be careful, and trust him to do the right things even if it's not 100% to letter of the law.
Duncs is correct.

I presume Rich has a go at anyone he sees not wearing a mask whenever he's out.
nah, like everyone else I just say nothing and let cunts who think they're too special to follow the rules get away with it.
How's telling everyone they're wrong and bad people working out for you? Noticed a big improvement in behaviour? :D

He was right to highlight it. It was described in a way that sounded like flagrant rule breaking and that is frustrating for those of us whom are trying to do the right thing. IIRC Deskjockey discussed not seeing family members and that's the same for lots of us so it's annoying when other people take the piss. Granted, when the more realistic version of Pete/Miks events were described, it was a little more rule bending that breaking.

I applaud the fact that Pete wants to share his epic experience with other people, but now isn't the right time to do so.

No need to take the piss out of Rich B because IMO he was justifiably annoyed.

Well I for one am glad he did, positive stories are few and far between these days.

... and yes, probably most of us have not seen family for a long time.

Not been home since September.

TBH I always assume that Rich is just being antagonistic rather than any real concern.

I haven't broken or ignored any rules, and I still got it, so you can take that a number of ways.

Maybe it was down to others around you breaking the rules then?! After all, if everyone was following the rules properly the virus would have very little chance of spreading.

Nah, that sounds crazy...

As you well know, construction/national infrastructure is functioning as normal. That's already a very large group of working people that cannot realistically function in their jobs and socially distance effectively. As one example of functioning within the rules and still spreading the virus.

My personal view is that the rules are not strict enough to be truly effective, but that the harm done by making them strictor would start to outweigh the benefits.

There's a huge amount of people who cannot practically work from home and would probably lose their homes if they cannot work.

It's easy to blame everything on a minority who are not complying.

I don't want people to have to stop working, the impact of losing more jobs could be worse than covid.

I work in construction too and see first hand the amount of money and effort we put into Covid proofing our sites. Its all undone if people don't follow the rules though and Our site managers dismiss anyone immediately if they willfully break the rules.

Unfortunately no one says anything in "real life" out and about, because if someone is enough of a dick to blatantly disregard the rules, they obviously don't give a fuck so are not someone you particularly want to get into an altercation with.

We have measures in place, but a lot of what we do involves heavy components that can only be lifted or manipulated in tandem. We of course have the usual stuff about social distancing, staggered breaks, limits on numbers in rooms, cleaners going round and cleaning in between etc etc. I still don't think it's enough to stop the spreading though.

I guess outbreaks have been minimal, but we have had plenty of cases either confirmed or rumoured.

I haven't been home since October 2019 and it's not looking very likely this year either... :(

I'm pretty confident we'll have our Vaccine by the summer but I expect ROI to be much further behind. I don't expect to be able to travel without some form of self isolation on arrival.

If this is say, 48 or 72 hours with a negative test then this is a possibility. My folks house in Dublin is largely empty these days so I could get my sister to stock it up with food etc. Do our quarantine and then head off west to where they live these days.

But if there's a longer quarantine still in place then there isn't much point really. Then of course, we'd need to get somewhere to stay because I doubt we'd be able to stay with them.

Well, I've just booked a holiday for the last week of May. I'm optimistic we'll get to take it. In the UK.

I have a boating holiday booked on the Broads in early May. I'll be postponing or cancelling ☹️

We're hoping to be able to see my parents by then down in Cornwall. But I'm working on the assumption that will be wishful thinking and that any material loosening of restrictions this side of the summer will be a massive bonus.

The wife at least finally has a jab booked in for this coming Sat. Amd her 2nd at the end of April.

Its getting beyond fucking depressing for me to be honest. Maybe its because its Jan/Feb time again which isn't a great time of year at the best of times, but I'm stuck in such a rut. I guess not being able to run isn't helping and I can't get out on the bike much either so am stuck indoors like everyone else. I'm very grateful to still have work and a house with garden, but given how the vaccine rollout is going and variants, I can't see any return to normality for a while yet.
Cheers,

Mike.

Aye, it's been pretty bleak recently. I've been having trouble focusing so I'm starting to get behind at work and the split between work time and home time that I'd been really good at keeping has been disintegrating.

Still had 3 weeks of holiday that I hadn't used at the end of the year so I ended up just getting it paid to me in my wages.

Been living alone since september which hasn't been helping but hopefully once I move my partner is going to move back in.

Hoping that a house move and having a bike that's a bit more comfortable for riding around on the street will pick me up a bit. Less sitting around being fat and sad

That's what I meant to say originally, I can't believe how tough it must be for those living on their own through all of this.
Cheers,
