M2 cs are £75k. Sure you can spec the shit out of them, but you can make a 2.0 diesel Evoque cost that too if you tick all the boxes.

MINI
Bloke that had asked a load of questions, haggled, agreed a price and said he'd be here at 10am to collect didn't show up and has ignored emails & phone calls since

Reserve buyer who was desperate to come and see it yesterday has now changed his mind after getting an insurance quote

Touareg
I've got a queue of five people, two of whom have said they'll definitely take it at the asking price if I let them jump the queue

I clearly suck at selling cars !

Absolutely anything that requires the involvement of the "general public" is always going to be painful. It sucks!!

£75k poverty spec is still A LOT for a 2 series.

is it a lot for a ecoty winner?

I mean, yes it is, but everyone said the same about the M3CSL too which was £20k more than a normal M3.

Not to piss on yer chips, but how do you feel about knocking on ten year old adaptive dampers? I've thought about this idly over the last few years as they get more and more common, and they still ain't cheap to replace - and if one blows, it's either pay through the nose for a replacement, or pay through the nose to replace the whole system with passive shocks, surely?

Or is my experience of complete fucking sheds tainting me on this one?
The adaptive dampers on the faster mitos are about £900 each. If I had one and they broke I’d stick a £600 set of coilovers on!
That was my thought too - on something special, I can understand spending the money, but on a warmed up shopping shitter, where they more commonly appear these days, it seems like a high cost item for what eventually tends to become required maintenance.

Although SJ has a point that other things are more likely to fail than the dampers in general; location helps too - scabby roads around Scarbs and the countryside are probably harsher on shocks than sleeping policemen in towns. That said, there are plenty of vicious potholes where I live so....

Eh, who knows. It's just an idle thought, after all. :)

The problem is in the right set up they make or break the car.

W164 ML on standard suspension was horrible, seemingly soft and crashy at the same time.

Air suspension has a walkout comfort setting, increased off road height (which to be fair is crap, comfort works better) dynamic which it nearly lives in so changed depending on throttle position, steering angle sensor etc. Then finally sport which massively firms it up, reduces body roll and really sharpens the handling but is too hard for everyday use.

£400 to rebuild each strut and £120 for a new airbag. It still has a compressor though, 4 sensors and 4 linkages plus a ride height computer.

Now I’m sure a set of fancy dampers can make the difference but you will always have a compromise in the ride somewhere.

Dave!

See, that's not abhorrently expensive, in fairness.

2012 XFS 3.0d.
I was looking for one of these a couple of years ago but couldn’t find one in a colour I liked that also had a black interior. At 38 I also thought I was a few years off a Jag too 😂 I went for an A5 3.0 instead. Great cars the XF, pretty quick as a I remember and an excellent cruiser.

2012 XFS 3.0d.

Its very different to the S60! I've driven quite a few XF's, but never the facelift with the 8 speed box, and it's a particularly high spec one.

Adaptive Dampers, AFS bi xenon lights, 1200w Bowers and Wilkins sound system, DAB, DVD, Video input, 18 way adjustable heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, 20 inch wheels.

Its a lovely car, 65k on it, full jag service history, cambelt was done last December as well which is a big expense out the way.

Surprised by how quick it feels, throttle feels quite a bit keener than they normally do, it certainly feels all of its 275 hp.

The only diesel car I've ever had was the Discovery, and that picked up quite well, but didn't really keep pulling to the redline, this does!

It really wakes up when you boot it, at any speed. No lag with the twin turbos, and the power is still there past 4k.

I Sometimes forget how old the autobox in the Volvo is, by the time the Volvo thought about kickdown this would be off up the road!

The 8 speed box is superb, very quick acting, especially in sport mode.

It certainly isn't a winter weather car though, its on Dunlops all round, which are decent in the summer, but clearly not when its minus 1, any of the first 3 gears just yielded the traction control light 😂

Heated steering wheel is nice too, never had that before!

Picking it up next Saturday 😎
Nice! Welcome to the club... although you have out-specced me and mine is the measly 240 brake model. I agree that it is a tremendous engine and gearbox combo, I bloody love it. Have you tried dynamic mode yet?

I went for a cream leather interior - I always find it feels a bit more spacious than all black!

Poor Boxster has sat on the driveway over Christmas - and now is stuck as they have dug up the road outside the house for a few days! Nonthless I had to fire her up to move from one end of the driveway to the other in order that the hedge could get trimmed. It might have been my imagination but it felt like the starter motor turned a little sluggishly. Let the engine idle for 20 minutes or so to put some juice into the battery and generally warm the car up. Roadworks should be done on Tuesday so plan to take her out then...

Finally had someone turn up to view the Touareg. Seemed a nice chap, and seemed keen, but was totally thrown by my refusal to haggle :) He has gone away to have a think.

One interesting thing though - he does vehicle transport and does a lot of pick-ups for WBAC, delivering them to Blackbushe. He says he sees a lot of Range Rovers. Read into that what you will....

Not had it in dynamic when I test drove it as it was minus 1, the Eagle F1s on my S60 were much better in the cold than the Dunlops on the XF.

I've had a cream interior for the past 5 years, I won't miss the constant cleaning of dye from jeans off it!

Insurance is 30 quid a year cheaper than the S60 which is a bonus, tax is about 140 quid less and it will be a lot better on fuel I imagine.

Its a S Portfolio which explains the spec, I wasn't aware it existed. Need a new S badge for the back as the colouring is a bit faded and I might get paint for the calipers as they are quite visible behind the 20's.

Afaik dynamic softens the traction and also makes it hold onto gears in S-mode of the autobox, although I don't think it does anything to the throttle response. You'll probably see the change in your dampers I guess?

The 240 brake model gets me about 50mpg on a motorway cruise and I guess yours will probably not be different as it just sits in 8th at 1300rpm off boost at 70mph.

MINI gone. Lovely family came all the way down from Nottingham this morning, paid the money, drove off. Totally painless.

Touareg, however, has just had the THIRD person who absolutely definitely definitely wanted to buy it, not bother to turn up. I’m going to try one more person then I’m giving up.
