Thank goodness I'm here to help you. There are these big building that house businesses called "supermarkets". In these places they will sell you all manner of foods. They even cater for our materialistic religious festivals.

A quick Google will point you at your nearest retailer. 😜😜

But....but...those aren't independent boutique retailers. They aren't even Marks and Sparks, never mind Waitrose! ;)

Also, if you want cold seafood starters, look at boutique catfood. Like, seriously, it's better than 90% of the shit I eat :D

I’m more concerned that GG already has cold seafood starters almost a week in advance of Christmas. Sounds like a lovely way to spend Boxing Day on the bog with a packet of Imodium 😂
How about not having a sig at all?

He should be out in the trawler on Christmas Day morning really - or he might have a freezer?!

So apparently lots of people got on trains yesterday to flee London (Sky News) so if this is to partly stop the spread to the rest of the country it's a bit f'ing late to do that! People will do what they're gonna do, regardless of the rules. Because they're cunts.

Maybe they were just going home? The Tier 4 restrictions didn’t come into force until midnight, so what do you expect them to do?

Fleeing to their second homes in the countryside, most likely.

nah, that's it - you set up where ever you heard the announcement. John Lewis bedding dept if you're lucky. Under no circumstances do you get back in your train and go home.

Rich is correct - if Boris hadn’t kept on saying Christmas was relaxed all week then these people wouldn’t have been in London anyway but since they are, it’s a bench in Hyde Park or a cardboard box under Waterloo Bridge for them for the next 2 weeks. Them’s the rules.

Disappointed but only affecting 1 event. We were planning on having sister in law’s family over on Christmas in the evening so sit in the Garden. Had planned to light the fire pit and had borrowed some Patio Heaters etc.

As she lives a 90 second walk away, it isn’t a massive headache. Just would have been nice to see them. Her son and mine are like brothers more than cousins

Gotto be done though

Indeed.

How many people ‘flee’ to their second homes on the train? None?

If someone has a second home and was intending on going over Christmas, they’re most likely already there, and if not are going in the car, and will do so whenever they feel like it.

Living 5 min from London Bridge station, it has been clear for that last four weeks that there are more out-of-town people on jollies, shopping trips, sightseeing, than there are locals or office workers. Because Bojo told them that they could.
Questionably dressed groups of ‘ladies’ leaving London Bridge station at 11am with cans of G&T on the go heading to Gaucho to meet their ‘gentlemen’, who are barely able to stand while taking their instapics are surely a big part of the reason the SE is now in this situation.
But the government said that they could do it...

There's lots of smug posts on social media today from people who left London last night on crowded trains or whatever, headed for the north. Whilst the government have handled things extremely badly, particularly with the ever-changing rules in recent days/weeks, is this not just going to become the catalyst for a big spike in numbers in following weeks? Or is it over-simplifying things to think that lots of people from an area with a high number of cases (including this new strain) travelling all over the country is going to be a shit show?

And this "Christmas is Cancelled" narrative is utter bollocks too. Its been a hell of a long, shitty year, but between the government and people ignoring the rules & guidelines, I do wonder where we'd be now if a lot of the population had just thought a bit more about the consequences of their actions.
Cheers,

Mike.

There's thousands and thousands on trains every day. One day of slightly busier travel (followed by 2 weeks of quieter travel) won't make any difference.

As for the "cancelled Christmas" thing, they shouldn't have come up with the idea of relaxed rules for 5 days in the first place. It was always going to end in disappointment (at best).

Yep Rich - it was “Lockdown to Christmas Eve - then bubbles” or “No Christmas Mixing”

A mix of both was never going to work

 It’s ordered for collection on Christmas Eve - nice service independent fishmongers/butchers offer...

I’m hoping they let me reduce the order otherwise we will be having Christmas Polski style.

Really feel sorry for people living on their own. At least we have our own little nuclear family to spend it with.

It was also pretty fucking mean waiting until 4pm on the Saturday before Xmas. Wait til everyone has been out and bought all the food/drink for the 5 days, etc... THEN tell them it's off.

Rich is speaking with the voice of reason thankfully. People banging on about going to second homes are incredibly naive, the working wealthy in London are all in finance and working from their second home anyway. This will be commuters, students, construction workers and the like going to their only home or parents.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect people most of whom probably have tickets booked, to just not go.

I also find it a bit unsavoury that (exactly as the government want) people are now just turning on the population and saying this is all the fault of people not complying and the UK population has got what it deserved in some way. That's just people swallowing media stories about the minority whole.

My experience is that pretty much everyone I've seen, and every establishment I've been in have been rigidly sticking to the rules we've been given.

I also strongly suspect that all the hand-wringers have also got a nice family Christmas nailed down without having to break rules, so are now quite happy to waggle a finger to the ones that don't and tell them to suck it up.
