Re: Coronavirus
My work are getting worried, a couple of plants have lost entire shifts due to infection / isolation.
My mrs has been told not to go to work until at least 2nd December, she’s only done a handful of reduced hours shifts since she was ill the first time round.
Roads quieter, but lots and lots of people out and about wandering around the countryside, although it’s been a lovely day for the first time in ages which must help.
Loads of pubs seem properly geared up for takeaways this time, no idea why it took so many so long last time, you’d have thought they’d all be keen to give it a go to get at least some sort of income.

Re: Coronavirus
I have booked a click and collect from Wagamama’s for 7, it’s 20 miles away but I would say it’s essential otherwise I’ll starve.
London was business as usual yesterday, all the coffee shops and bakeries open this time round which was nice but it was dead in terms of foot traffic - I imagine it’s better off for them to just close and make use of the furlough instead.

At least the expenditure for safeguarding customers etc is already in place and paid for.

Re: Coronavirus
I know you've had personal experience with covid so it's maybe a little raw, but this is simply not correct. You absolutely can build up immunity to flu and colds. It may not be consistent due to mutations and strains, but it is still a real thing.integrale_evo wrote: Fri Nov 06, 2020 12:31 pm How many other diseases do we want which we build up immunity to? Flu strain varies every year, catching it one year doesn’t make you less likely to the next, same with common coughts and colds.
Might have to start calling you a tin foil hat fake immunity wierdo.

Yeah, I didn't see anything that I saw as high infection risk from the businesses that were open. They're pretty well set up now.V8Granite wrote: Sat Nov 07, 2020 4:33 pmOr selling rich tea biscuits by the counter to call themselves a mini-marketduncs500 wrote: Sat Nov 07, 2020 3:41 pm Been into town today, you wouldn't know we were on lockdown, very busy. Parks and countryside continue to be packed, further evidence noone really gives a shit this time. The term pandemic has been wrongly applied to this farce.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... untry.html this one is good. Nobhead with pipes walks on purpose into the old bill and then does a right dive a premier league footfaller would have been proud of.
Note how he stops, stamps feet and turns at one end then just walks into the copper blatantly at the moment of push.... cant do that in this covid world.

AZ/Oxford's news won't be long either I imagine
Be interesting to see if we get any signs of rollout before the year comes to an end

So not a ‘total’ vaccine but sufficient to massively reduce the R infection rate, thus controlling the disease?

I saw on Twitter this morning that the latest government-related plan to keep people obedient during lockdown is to manufacture a lot of fog across the north of England.
I shit you not.

Re: Coronavirus
No vaccine is 100% effective, but anything you can do to help reduce spread can have a big effect on r rate and number of people who get seriously ill.dinny_g wrote: Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:37 pm So not a ‘total’ vaccine but sufficient to massively reduce the R infection rate, thus controlling the disease?
90% effective means 90% of people can’t incubate and manufacture and spread the virus, making it far less likely for the 10% it’s not effective on to come into contact with the virus in the first place.
Cheers, Harry
Re: Coronavirus
Minor correction Harry. They know that it's 90% effective at keeping people safe from developing the disease, what we don't know yet is if it stops transmission.

Re: Coronavirus
I don't understand this point personally. Surely those vaccinated were subsequently tested for whether they were producing the virus and not just that they became asymptomatic and therefore become effectively carriers?
I'm wondering whether is more bullshit of the kind where supposedly having had the virus and lived didn't mean you were immune (which is a matter of biological fact).
