Although they did look great on the 17” Cup2 wheels too (some s4 and GT had these - not a 928 expert so not sure if they were an option or specific to some markets).

Yeah, I'd have that top one. Good looking car and they have IMO aged very, very gracefully.

We always had Cup 2s on our S4 manual and S4 GTs so I'm partial to those over the Cup 1s.

I have a tyre fitter coming to fit some brand new tyres to the OEM wheels and put them on the 928 tomorrow. I noticed a bulge in the NSR tyre on the car, so that's sped up my new tyre acquisition schedule, somewhat. Annoyingly there's limited choice as only Michelin, Pirelli and Toyo seem to do the rears (245/45/16). The Michelin were priced at £430 each! Toyo Proxes it is then.

My local mechanic has had a look at the Boxster now with the things the OPC highlighted. The coolant pipes need done, as picked-up on the recent MOT, so after much head scratching and a call last night we've worked out all the bits needed from Design911.

One of the front shocks needs replaced due to corrosion. The other one has a little bit of corrosion at the top, so we're just going to swap them both out when he has the car up on the ramp as its only a matter of time. The bump stops were missing from both, so those, shocks and mounts have all been ordered from Design911 too. I'm thinking this explains what I'm feeling through the steering wheel on turn-in, particularly on uneven surfaces.

There's no leaks on the engine which was bore-scoped before I got it, so having done the brakes, its just some little cosmetic bits I want to do over the next while once that's all sorted. Exhaust will need done next year, so I think I'll look at the one [mention]Broccers[/mention] has found and do it in the Spring.

I've not run a car of this age for a while. The price and availability of parts seems to be really good and I'm thinking that this car has been a bit of a show pony for some previous owners where they've just been concerned about how the bodywork looks and have left some of the other stuff needing attention so long as it passes the MOT each year.

Mini - took it back the the vinyl place who fitted the stripes today. The bonnet ones have gone none shiny due to the heat. Apparently normal temp is about 110 in a cooper s. The roof ones need a t cut - anyway the BIG BOSS was sat in the car and she decided she wants no stripes at all so they are being removed @ 50 quid. I reckon it looks ok without - heres a vid of it years ago before we go it.

Yeah, its fine, I expected to have to do this sort of thing, but by the end of next week it will be in a pretty good place all round.

I was about to say this is my 3rd order with them and I’ve not had any issues, but I’ve just got the order processing confirmation and the Bilstein shocks are now showing as “on-order” rather than in-stock. But of course they didn’t say this when I placed the order... I can either wait for them or send what they have. I’ll see if I can get them somewhere else I guess and call them.

My Mito is a curious car in that I’ve never had to replace the rear brakes due to normal wear and tear because a caliper seizes every single time. The first time Alfa replaced the rear pair under warranty, then I had a tyre place replace another one a few years later, then I replaced one a year later and now a few years later the cycle has repeated. The last 2 calipers have done 10,000 miles each so in the future I shall do a Kimi when I drive and take my time mumble mumble. It’s a fecking Bosch part too.

This time I kept putting it off as I used to be able to buy the whole caliper + carrier in red for £150 off eBay but I guess it’s too old now so it’s just in silver and the bloody carrier isn’t included (although I see you can still get the newer Lucas brakes in red).
And then a few weeks ago the car needed a few thousand revs to pull away without stalling and pulled to the right constantly so before I killed something else I just ordered the parts.

Found out why it’s been squealing like a bitch even more than usual

The whole brake pad delaminated from its backing
Anyway I’m literally waiting for paint to dry so I can put it back together again and in a few months I can do the other side again.

Pads usually only fall to bits like that when they’re sat around not used for a while and corrosion creeps in and splits the pad material away.

The pads on the other side are like new, I think it’s just overheated, I did about 60 miles at full throttle last week and it was only doing 85 mph such was the drag, the paint on the caliper was bubbling when I got home and I noticed earlier that the metal backing on the pad is now blued.

The Defender has also shit something at the front end. I can turn the wheel half a lock in either direction at motorway speeds and it doesn’t respond at all but that can stay like that until the next MOT/complete failure

Opening the offside rear door on the Jag had started to make a sloshing noise. The drains at the bottom of the door were open so it was a bit odd. Pulling out a clip that holds the main door seal did the trick and a good pint or so slowly dripped out.

I'll need to get some sort of drain plug cleaning tool and go round the entire car.

Some dickheads use heat on the steering box drop arm and it creates the symptoms you have. It snaps and then you spear off the road and die.

Or it’s your panhard rod bushes gone or the bolt come out (I saw one fall out on a discovery) which means you either fuck up the chassis or axle bracket or you front axle wobbles sideways and you spear off the road while ruining front wings, driveshaft, tyres etc.

Or your steering wise ujs have failed or some loose and you spear off the road.

They aren’t very easy to handle if you have a steering failure, there is a lot of sway and swivel. I’d rather have a blowout at 150mph in a car as apposed to 70mph in a Defender.

Defenders are so easy to look at you’d be a bellend not to at least have a look.

The Volvo has a big boot but this must be 3 times the size of it easily.

Have a day off work tommorow so will free off the turbo actuator and fit the egr blanking kit.

Also will give it a quick service as it can't hurt to change the fluids and filters, its been 8k and 11 months since they were last done, might do the diff and transfer box oil later this month as well.

Gave it a clean yesterday and its certainly shiny enough now compared to how it was when I got it!
I Vax'd the interior and cleaned all the mats, quick AC bomb and now it smells like a new car.

I bought a couple of new Land Rover badges for 7 quid off ebay as the ones on it are peeling, and bought a set of parking sensors as 2 have gone down according to the scanner.

Its surprised me how much I like it, might end up in a newer one at this rate
