Project Binky spin-off (2)
Project Binky spin-off (2)
Probably worthy of its own thread but this will likely be epic.
Oh, by the way if you're wondering why '2', then the first spin-off is the MG-SV, non?

I enjoyed watching it. Who knew watching two men strip weight out of an old lorry would make for good watching?

Oh yes, it's very very different to Binky at this stage. Less 'fabrication', more 'how much did all that wood weigh'?

I found it a bit boring - 5 minutes of struggling with bolts... But I’m looking forward to the building bits!

Interesting.
I've driven a flat-bed Cargo of similar age / size. Christ they make normal roads seem VERY narrow, and give you respect for (all those) truckers (out there).

I'm of the age like most of you where I did my test 'early' enough to get a C1 license entitlement, which means 7.5T lorries. I hired one to move house a couple of years ago and it was really fun in a 'Euro Truck Simulator' kind of way...

From helping the old man strip the boat out, plenty enough, and this thing had a lot more wood.Simon wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:06 pm Oh yes, it's very very different to Binky at this stage. Less 'fabrication', more 'how much did all that wood weigh'?
Be interesting to see where they get the extra 500+kgs from though - I'm assuming it needs to be 4.5tons finished and unloaded, not 4.5tons as a rolling chassis before they start adding creature comfort stuff back on.
Composite 'body' panels for the box area perhaps with triangular framing? I'd imagine that the metal frame and panels for the body are pretty bloody robust, and it's not like they're building it to save production run costs (as the original coachbuilders will have).
Re: Project Binky spin-off (2)
I missed the reason for this 4.5 tonne target weight?

Re: Project Binky spin-off (2)
Because 'add car, add creature comforts, add people, add luggage' and you're getting close to the 7.5T limit for the license and vehicle.

Assuming the previous owners turned a rather blind eye to this
Interested to see what they do with it, and fully understand the reasons, but I can't imagine it being anything other than a horrible place to spend many hours chugging along

Cheers Simon - assumed that was the case but missed the comment (if there was one).
This sounds like a great project to me - for what they are trying to achieve. I don’t expect it will provide much driving pleasure Harry, but it isnt being built as a holiday tourer.

I wasn't expecting driving nirvana, but something that's not torture to be in would be nice
