Christchurch

Post by KiwiDave »

As Beany has so aptly pointed out on his Facebook, switch off your auto play for videos before you go on social media.

I only remember feeling this hollow sick to the gut emptiness twice before - during 9/11 and immediately after the Christchurch earthquakes after feeling them 900kms away while sat in the office at work.

I'd love to say that today New Zealand lost its innocence but the reality is as god damn perfect and wonderful as this country is, there's a racist sub-culture that runs strong. Most people go about their every day lives acting like it doesn't exist not because they don't care but because they're trying to cling on to the Kiwi way of life. Seems the shooter(s) who shot up mosques today has little to do with the general racial issues in NZ but the effect is the same - there's no way to ignore the fact rampant hatred is among us everywhere.

And please - for your own sake, don't watch the video he live streamed of him killing people.

RIP to those lost today

I had the misfortune of seeing the video briefly. The total callousness of it astounds me...

This country is like a small back yard, like a little village and that kinda hatred driven right through the middle of it, will I suspect, change the place forever. And that fucks me off so much - the cunts won, they got what they wanted, infamy and a world that can't ignore them.

I'm thankful that just now, the last of my friends down there has checked in safely.

But meanwhile 3kms away in the main train station in Auckland, it's on lockdown while they detonate a series of unattended bags.

Was shocked to wake up to those headlines this morning. Can't comprehend 40 people dying like that, am totally lost for words.
Cheers,

Mike.

It's the scale of it - Christchurch isn't big, if you talk percentages it's like someone killing 820 people at once in London.

And the cunt livestreamed it, and then thousands and thousands of people reuploaded the video over and over again.

It's been a very long day - I suspect sleep isn't gonna happen.

Hideous.

Truly horrible. The Bangladeshi cricket team were seriously lucky, and anyone else who managed to escape or otherwise be unexpectedly elsewhere.

There will be a few dead Christians in Bangladesh over the next few days then. As is the way with these things.

They also had a picture of a pile of bodies taken from the shooters livestream.

Because the Daily Mail are utter fucking scum and anyone who thinks otherwise is either sorely mistaken, or just flat out fucking stupid.

That's alarmingly accurate.

I had the fortune of giving Jacinda a tour through my studio and workspace about 9 months before she ran, she's the same person in real life as you've seen her over the last few days. Entirely onto it on all fronts, but a genuine, caring human.

Also over $5 million raised via Givealittle since Fri - that's well over a dollar for every person in the country, and it's still climbing. Being here at the moment and seeing universal grief everywhere is one of the most surreal things I've ever experienced.

The more I see NZ's Prime Minister in action, the more I'm impressed. Absolute dog's danglies.

“He sought many things from his act of terror but one was notoriety, that is why you will never hear me mention his name,” she said of the gunman. “He is a terrorist. He is a criminal. He is an extremist. But he will, when I speak, be nameless.

“And to others, I implore you: speak the names of those who were lost rather than the name of the man who took them. He may have sought notoriety but we, in New Zealand, will give nothing – not even his name.”

That is absolutely admirable. I hope the rest of the world's media can follow suit, because it's not a difficult concept - the murders are not the endgame. Notoriety and terror is the endgame.

I've had a proper fall out with a mate over this. He's always been an Islamaphobe, and I've always called him out on it but he crossed a line by sharing a Facebook post claiming that the Charlie Hebdo killers were trained at the Christchurch mosques. What sort of cunt wants to try to find a way to blame the victims? Fuck that shit.
