extra car seat rack
extra car seat rack
I remember in EVO ages back there was a rack that Barker used to fit 4 seats in a BMW. Racking my failing memory but the name eludes me and google is not helping, can anyone remember what they were called?

How does that work if you're in an accident or something and have five people in a car only registered for carrying four on the v5?
I'm sure they're perfectly safe from a construction point of view, but must be some legal issues in there somewhere?

My friend had a 3 seater bench in his e61 530 and it was a nice bit of kit. It was incredibly sturdy and probably stiffened the car.
He has just purchased an E63 and will do the 7 seater conversion though, this was a good choice.
I think most family car 7 seaters leave the child’s head too close to the rear screen imo.

I'm not sure I'd want to put my kids in the crumple zone, if I'm honest.V8Granite wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:14 am My friend had a 3 seater bench in his e61 530 and it was a nice bit of kit. It was incredibly sturdy and probably stiffened the car.

It’s far further away than nearly every 7 seater MPV on sale and it was designed for the seats from the outset.NotoriousREV wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:17 amI'm not sure I'd want to put my kids in the crumple zone, if I'm honest.V8Granite wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:14 am My friend had a 3 seater bench in his e61 530 and it was a nice bit of kit. I’d rather that than an S Max or C Max etc
I wonder if there are any crash tests they all must follow as full 7 seaters on YouTube, I shall have a peruse after work.

I was referring to estate cars with 7 seats, not proper 7 seaters.V8Granite wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:26 amIt’s far further away than nearly every 7 seater MPV on sale and it was designed for the seats from the outset.NotoriousREV wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:17 amI'm not sure I'd want to put my kids in the crumple zone, if I'm honest.V8Granite wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:14 am My friend had a 3 seater bench in his e61 530 and it was a nice bit of kit. Don’t think you can put the extra seats in a E63 as the exhaust takes up that space. Chris Harris looked into it.V8Granite wrote: Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:14 am My friend had a 3 seater bench in his e61 530 and it was a nice bit of kit. It was incredibly sturdy and probably stiffened the car.

Your head is much further away in a rear facing seat in the e class than the MPVs.

Gavin - have you told your wife you're looking for an extra large rack to squeeze in the back seat? Just wondering.
Mik - I'm disappointed in you: you've contributed to this thread without asking the obvious questions.
ETA: anyway I think the best E class option is clearly this
