Dyno'd my M140i today
There has been lots of chat on the internet about the addition of a petrol particulate filter to the M140i and about how much power it robs. It think among other VW have quoted a reduction of 10bhp on the Golf R and Audi S3.
My car has a PPF fitted and has never felt lacking in any grunt when the bum Dyno has been in use. The 60-100 time of 5.7s was pretty brisk in my consideration, but hey ho, I thought I'd just stick it on a Dyno and see what happened
Stock power is quoted at 335bhp and 500nm for torque. It did 4 runs and went from a lowest of 355.9bhp & 544nm and a 360.1bhp & 551nm which I'm sure you'll agree is quite healthy. We compared with data sheets from tests on the same Dyno of a non-PPF car and the variation was negligible.
Quite pleased with that!

swift but โnmโ Grrrrrrr
Re: Dyno'd my M140i today
My arse dyno had the M140 at "suprisingly swift"

Itโs the cool autumn air
I watched some of Harryโs recent video and he explained that manufacturer bhp figures are tested at 30 Celsius and quite high altitude so in our climate we get more power - it does seem like everyone on here who has been to a rolling road gets more power than the official figure apart from GGโs shonky Porsche.
Then again I remember that the twin turbo V8 M engines were designed to keep mapping themselves so they put out the same amount of power regardless of altitude or air temperature yet owners keep getting 40-60 bhp more out of a standard car on a dyno so it could be utter nonsense.

How about not having a sig at all?

Sounds like nonsense. Would they really go through the hassle of finding a high altitude dyno for all their figures.Mito Man wrote: โThu Oct 25, 2018 5:18 pm Itโs the cool autumn air

And anyway - my specific shonky Porsche aside, a significant number of 996s don't make stated power either. YK's GT3, for example, is the exception rather than the rule.
Despite having the coils and injectors changed I still don't think mine is right, which is a pain. There's another SRR ยฃ40 saturday in November so I may see if I can get down there and see what we're currently up to.

No, they measure it on their dyno and apply a correction factor to compensate for temp and pressure.

Re: Dyno'd my M140i today
A quick google shows up loads of climatic altitude test chambers - not all are necessarily based on a physical high altitude location, some seem to have partial vacuum chambers and others are just simulating the altitude. Iโm guessing if youโre going to sell a car internationally you want a power output which is representative of most regions rather than applying to one country only.

Or do it properly and use an environmental test cell. We just controlled air temp, very simple.GG. wrote: โThu Oct 25, 2018 7:21 pmbeing a bit err... dense on that one.NotoriousREV wrote: โThu Oct 25, 2018 6:34 pm
