SAC or Points?
So, been done for speeding for the first time in probably 16yrs, and been offered an SAC or the points. £90 for the SAC, or £100 and 3pts.
Do points really add much to the premium these days? ISTR that they didn't make much difference anymore and I'm tempted to just take them. I'm loathed on principle to further line the pockets of the former police chiefs that are making £ms from the SAC schemes, and then there's having to endure a couple of hours with a bunch of half-wits that likely shouldn't be on the road at all (going off tales from people I know that have done the SAC). I'd also have to take half a day off work, which I'd rather avoid if possible at the moment.

Take the points, it'll make fook-all difference to anything and you won't have to listen to a sanctimonious twat.
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.
Re: SAC or Points?
I'd try to take the SAC for points avoidance, although I heard some insurers now ask about these courses too (so presumably load your risk as if you had received 3pts anyway? )

Personally I'd always take the SAC when offered so I have the least points on my licence at any given time. You've no idea when it might be useful to have 3 less points than you might otherwise have had.

If time is most important then take points.
If number of points is most important then take course.
It’s really not hard.

The course I went on a few years back wasn't sanctimonious particularly, although I don't think I learned anything new. The entertainment value from this idiots on the course with me was huge, though. I'm amazed any of them were allowed behind the wheel of a car in the first place.

See I don't find that sort of thing entertaining. I just end up arguing and getting annoyed. There, didn't want you to miss out on the sanctimonious twat bit.

Ta.
I was lucky I had a car full tbh - I was taking it incredibly gently as it was! It was between the Manchester Airport tunnels. Been driving that stretch for 12yrs twice daily and never seen plod, and prevailing speed of 50% of traffic on there is normally quite a lot more than the posted 50.

Yeah, usually if you're doing 50 through there you're like a rolling road block.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 4:17 pm Ta.

When I was in the UK a few days back, motorway speeds have really changed. Its either 70 on the button or 90+, nothing in between. And people are terrified of average speed cameras.

Take the course. I was dreading the sanctimonious twat part but it didn't happen and I quite enjoyed it.tim wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 2:22 pm Take the points, it'll make fook-all difference to anything and you won't have to listen to a sanctimonious twat.
Regarding the insurance companies asking if you've attended one, they have no right to do so according to the two trainers/ex-coppers on mine. They said if an insurance company asks then just put the phone down on them and call someone else as they don't need to know. They said it is mainly direct line so don't use them. There are plenty of others to choose from.
Re: SAC or Points?
I heard it was the Admiral group of companies that asked (Elephant etc). Certainly I've been with Direct Line for the last 9 years or so and have never been asked. Last renewed 3 months ago.

I’d also go for the course if you could because Rev is correct.
