Cheap car options.
Cheap car options.
I need a cheap replacement for the 420d, after sifting Autotrader, Boatshoes Gumtree and ebay I've come up with a couple a close possibilities. One is a 03 plate 320Ci, pre facelift with 120k on it described as "not the normal rubbish, genuine Sport not full of rust" New brake pads, plenty of history for £1400,
The other is a Civic Type R, 58 plate, 105k, "The car drives exactly as it should, no warning lights on the dash, VTEC engages as it should. The clutch is fine as is the gearbox, all gears engage without issue etc. The car has just had a brand new Yuasa battery fitted, new EBC OE Spec brake pads all round and new wiper blades. The alloy wheels are in excellent condition as are the tyres with plenty of tread left on them." £3800
Now I realise there is a significant difference in price but both cars are local (believe me, there isn't much decent that is) and more importantly to me, they are advertised privately not on some back street car lot full of crap bought from auctions. So do I take the saving and get the BMW or spend the extra on the Civic??

Re: Cheap car options.
Buy the CTR and we can arrange a Yorkshire Moors OV9 meet . Not sure how many are in the area??
Re: Cheap car options.
I paid 2 grand for my Civic over 5 years ago & that had roughly the same mileage. That sound stupid expensive. How about a Maxda 3 MPS for similar money?

IIRC he had a breadvan so comparing apples and chips.
If its a stopgap car until you find another job then id just buy the cleanest cheap mondeo / focus you can find and accept it wont have much grunt but handles well.
Re: Cheap car options.
My bad, thought it was an 03 car, but that's the BMW above. Everything I've ever read about the FN2's suggest they're worse in every way than the EP3, so why not go for a cheaper EP3 instead?
Cheers.

Bit of a difference between £1400 and £3800. How do you define ’cheap’?

You can have my 2012 308 VTI 1.6 for 4k, 38000 miles
Should be good for a few more years without big bills, has 4 Nokian Winters on it, recent brakes, and has had oil changed every 6k since my dad has had it, all done by me.
He's got a 3008 now which is why this has come to me.
Has bluetooth with streaming, speed limiter, cruise, AC etcs.
Only takes my wife to work and back 3 miles each way so I'm getting a Xantia and she can take the Volvo
In West Yorkshire so not too far for you.

If I have to explain it then it stops being funny.
Floor mats, a boot liner and the 'smokers pack' are usually 'cheap car options'.
