The 80's Emporium

I was always interested to see what was on this website and admired the cool selection and meticulous preparation of his cars, but surely he's lost the plot now with the one "best of breed" vehicle in stock...

I've also sold a lot of rare cars but I don't think I've ever fitted a new clutch kit just because they were rare :D

It’s a bit low rent compared to his usual! Some might argue and say the gti 16v limited edition was the best of the later metros, not some shitbox where wheel trims are a selling point!

Lol, even as a metro weirdo a five door carbed version with a beige interior is probably the least desirable version of the lot :lol:

I don't remember the K ever having a carb in 1.4 guise. It was either SPi (pre '91/'92) or MPi (post '91/'92). I think he's confused, thinking the SPi (94bhp without cat, 89bhp with) looks a bit like a 'carb' would.

1.4 8v had a carb until 93 ish, the 1.1 remained carbed until the rover 100 rebadge in 94.

Carb engines had the big round air filter, single point injection had a triangular one, late multipoint injection cars had a rectangular filter down next to the battery.

Catalysts were standard fit from 92 onwards.

I saw a Metro 1.1S, quite a late one just yesterday. Given the crazy price for old crap cars £3250 does not seem that steep for a minter.

My Mum had the GTa and it was really really fast and great fun to drive.*









*In my vast experience as an 18 year old having driven a diesel metro and a GTa 16V that my instructor had and my Dad's 216GSi.

Sadly k-series metros would probably be my mastermind specialist subject.

When I was 17 my mum had a 1.1 carb 5 door (quest) and my driving instructor had a 1.1 r100.

My first car a couple of years later was a 1.4 8v GTa with a carb, then a couple of years later a 94 1.4 16v GTi with multipoint injection.

I think they work best as utter base spec zero equipment old fashioned transport or quicker than you think they should be with the nippy 16v engine. I never really got the point of the chrome bumper strip and stick on plastic looking wood on the same cheap plastic dashboard as the rest of the range 'luxury' crap little car versions 😂

I loved our little GTi 16v LTD. It worked quite well as a hot hatch. Half Leather seats were maybe superfluous but electric windows were very welcome.
We only sold it as for my wife it would have been impractical as a young mum.

Guy at work turned up in a j reg Metro Gti 16v this morning, he bought it Friday. I'll try and get a pic.

The Gtis seem to be worth decent money now, I've considered turning my old one back to standard 1.4 GTi spec using the bits from my spare shell and carry on with the 1.1 as a silly 1.8 project. But that would be yet another project to add to the list and I can't see it happening :lol:

Yep, somewhere around that.

Looks smart with its full set of rubbing strips ( like rocking horse poop and impossible to remove for rear arch repairs without ruining them )

I sold my E34 535i Sport through Daniel Curnock. He’s a really nice chap, and I think his tongue will have been firmly in his cheek when he wrote that ad 😄
