Makes the Audi seem even more glorious just for the noise. Cars should make noise.

Re: Teslas
There is something about the serene about way which electric cars effortlessly and silently deploy their power. I quite like it.
I also love engines which make silly noises. But then you're not allowed to like two different things in the internet, so I must be DIW.

Re: Teslas
A few things about Teslas and electric cars.
1) They're all about acceleration up to 100 or so. After that it's glacial.
2) Tesla is becoming an 'Apple like' cult, and that is a bit sad.You see the cultists on social media and they are incapable of critical thinking. It's all 'electric is the best, the end'
3) I sat in a new Leaf at the weekend. My brother's also tried a Tesla Model S. We've both found the same thing. Because of the battery sandwich that you're sitting on you actually sit quite high in the car and it severely impacts headroom. Not good for those of use that are 6'2" plus. You really feel that you're sitting 'on' the car rather than in it.
4) I'm bored of arguing with those who consider the impracticalities of charging a non-issue. I'm up in the Midlands and back again this Thursday seeing a client. Next week I'll be back up to Hull, then along to Liverpool, then back, all in the space of 2 days. Asking a client if he's got an extension cord to plug an electric car in is not going to be feasible. Realistically, new 'flow' batteries look to sort out this recharge time, but they're years away from mass market and the required infrastructure to support them.
5) I hate the massive, non-tactile screens in the 3 and the S. Just no. Not good for driving and using (changing temp, or windscreen wipers etc) on the go.

Do you know, I think the Jag I Pace has normalised some of the poorly executed features of the Tesla, not to mention the build quality being light years ahead, I think Tesla are on borrowed time when people start to see just how shit they really are.

That would require using social media, and whilst I fully acknowledge I am a partial cunt, I strive to not be a complete and utter cuntMcSwede wrote: Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:08 pmTwatter Elon and ask him to engineer in some pops, bangs & burblesJLv3.0 wrote: Mon Aug 20, 2018 7:30 pm ....are gay. Re: Teslas
I kind of get the idea behind Tesla; electric power is quite fun to drive because of the acceleration, and even the LOLvo is a rather lovely way to waft silently around town.
The problem I have is the build quality, which is turd. The Model X car in their showroom in Canary Wharf has panel gaps we haven't seen since the Allegro, FFS - also dirty big weld seams on the pillars, etc etc etc. I completely get the vision but (to me) never has a car felt more like an exercise in pushing technology for its own sake.
I also find the idea of the touchscreen in a car a weird one - the LOLvo has one, but fortunately only for non-critical controls; all the important things have proper physical controls with decent feedback, so you know (for example) that you've pressed the defrost button. The touchscreen works OK but using it on the move is a challenge. Plus, in an RHD car (unless you're a practicing sinistrist) you find yourself spazzing around trying to achieve pixel-perfect accuracy with the wrong hand.

Re: Teslas
Sadly, this seems to be the way everything is going. Have you looked at the new shape Audi A8, A7 and A6? They have two touchscreens, one for the nav etc and a lower one for ventilation. This isn't the right way to do it; I want to be able to turn the temperature up or down without taking my eyes off the road and bracing my finger against the centre console to press the right part of the screen.Simon wrote: Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:33 pm 5) I hate the massive, non-tactile screens in the 3 and the S. Re: Teslas
This is one of the pleasant surprises of driving lower-level cars sometimes, like most rental cars - no wanky climate control, just three nice dials to control the HVAC, and an on/off for the a/c. Works perfectly, and does not require fixing.
Re: Teslas
Massive touch screen with a physical controller for when you’re driving is the best way to do it - as with the iDrive system. Typing an address into a touchscreen from an angle about 2 feet away is really fucking hard on anything but a perfectly smooth road.
How about not having a sig at all?

I-Pace door handle is awful though. They’ll come good
I think what they’ve achieved in their time is great. I can’t thibk of any other car brands as big and as new as Tesla

Re: Teslas
I think Tesla have done some good things, and I hope they survive because it's very difficult for a car company to compete on quality with the big boys when they've just started. The top brands have decades of development and billions of pounds of investment in their product and their QC systems.
Tesla will get there eventually I'm sure.

Re: Teslas
Just need the fan boys to keep them going until that happens!

Re: Teslas
I guess I should have titled the thread "all electric cars that don't have a real engine as well".
