“ and even components like rubber bushings have been upgraded in order to handle the forces at play.”
I assume they’re just copy and pasting from the press release because that’s been standard in performance versions of pretty much every car for about 40 years.
New Car! Bigger wheels! Bigger brakes! More power! Weight 12t, worse power / weight ratio than the m3 touring that’s been out for years. Mind you, at least the front end is a bit less gopping.
Yet another new car I should be wetting my pants over but have basically zero interest in.

Re: RS5
As soon as I saw the photos I signed up for more info. It’s lighter than the M5 Touring…
But while I think it looks amazing I fear it may be a bit unsubtle for a solicitor in his mid-50s. Also the quoted boot capacity seems to be quite a bit smaller than the A5 Avant so I think they’ve done the Merc trick of installing the batteries in the boot, raising the boot floor quite a bit.
It’s not going to get much in the way of PHEV company car tax benefit now that’s being wound down.
Anyway, I’m still going to investigate one as a potential S6 replacement. Then probably go back to the original plan of keeping the S6 and buying a 992 at some point.

Re: RS5
I think it depends who your clients are. If they're under 30 and call you "bro" you'll be golden.
Either way, you should get an M5, brand it with your face giving a thumbs up and "We M-Power the legal process" underneath.
I won't charge you for that marketing advice, Simon. You can have that one.

Re: RS5
I looked at M5 Tourings yesterday. There are deals on new ones of those if you check the new available cars on the BMW website. Cheapest (which does have a few options) is £105k. I just don't much like the new 5-series in any form. The RS5 announcement came afterwards and it's just massively more appealing.
Re: RS5
I want to like it, but I enjoyed the (relative) Q-car looks of the RS4, which made the RS6 look all the more cartoonish and OTT. This (RS5) is heading far more towards the latter in terms of design aggression.
30% improvement in fuel efficiency for the (essentially just an upgrade over the previous gen) V6 sounds almost unbelievable - was the last gen particularly thirsty?
The weight is ridiculous.

Re: RS5
Absolutely - but the claim relates to the ICE element only
The Audi RS5 doesn’t fall victim to engine downsizing like its Affalterbach rivals, but instead retains the same 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 as its predecessors. We’ll admit that this engine wasn’t our favourite in its previous forms, but work has been done to enliven the motor: valve timing, higher injection pressures and tweaks to the intake system have been made, helping to increase engine output by 59bhp over the previous RS4/5, bringing the total to 503bhp. As a bonus, Audi also says these changes have made this engine 30 per cent more fuel efficient too.
Re: RS5
I would assume it includes the changes to incorporate the hybridisation - otherwise you'd have to assume that they disconnected the batteries to test it without and / or tested consumption out of the car not under load which is not reflective anyway. I expect its just imprecise statements by the press officer.mik wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 10:00 amAbsolutely - but the claim relates to the ICE element only

Also seems its 90k for an engine the journos didn't like. Think I'll pass! I do like the look of it though.
Re: RS5
I don't read Audi's statement as including the hybrid stuff; they only refer to the power output of the ICE engine in that paragraph and specifically compare it to the previous version.
Nobody was particularly enthused by the Audi 4.2 V8 until it was improved for the B7 RS4 so you'd need to reserve judgment on the new one. Anyway, people seemed to like the existing V6 when it was in the Macan. Joe Achilles has done a video on the new RS5 and it sounds good to me. But then I did like the 4.2 V8 in my old S6; it revved nicely to 7000 and sounded good to me.

Re: RS5
i like it - it looks like a cartoon with over inflated everything.
the previous RS4s had kind of lost much visual appeal for me - they just looked like diesel S line estates.
I don’t understand the name though.
