Robot Lawnmowers

Our rear lawn is only about 12m x 4m so one of the little robots should easily sort this I'd imagine?

It will be able to get round the side of the house to a dock or whatever it will use so it's out of the way when it's not in use.

I bought a robot vacuum that also mops and has an emptying station as they had a big sale on them on Amazon, and it's far surpassed my expectations as to what it would be like, so I'm willing to give this a go as well.

Anyone had one?

I also did this and it's fantastic. I got the roborock Q10 S5+. I find if you want the mop to work better the pre-soak the cleaning mop in some warm water as it doesn't pump enough detergent to properly wet the mop. Ive got it on an auto schedule every morning

I'm amazed at the size of garden a relatively small robot mower seems to be able to cope with - but that's what people tell me, I've no direct experience. I do fancy one though; I'm over the whole tractor mower thing now and the idea that it is always neat and tidy with basically no effort from me is great.

I don't want one with a wire perimeter though; that's the main thing I'd check before buying.

You can rename it on Alexa as well, telling Sheila to start cleaning certainly brightens the morning

@Jobbo Wasn't aware of the types of perimeter differences etcs, I'd want it wmto work like the vacuum I'd suppose, using LiDAR and sensors.

i have a robot hoover, it’s ok - but not without its issues. quite often it gets stuck and obviously needs emptying fairly often.

Is a robot mower really going to be worth the money for a small lawn? presumably it just mulches the cuttings rather than collects them in any way?

I’ve had a robot vacuum cleaner for about a year now. It’s great! I also pre-soak the mop pads before sending out out to mop the tiles

Only 3 - the tractor mower, a basic Honda Izy which is rarely ever used and a newer more sophisticated Izy.

There have been loads of videos on the Luba Mammotion on Youtube; I suspect nobody actually 'bought' them. But there's very little criticism.

Rich, you mention emptying; they all just mulch don't they? I haven't noticed any collector ones when I've been looking.

IIRC your front lawn is raised isn't it ? - a robot might be ideal for that.

Absolutely right - and it would be good for that, though the back lawn is much bigger (about 1600 sq m of grass) so I think a robot would save me plenty of time there too. I'd probably get one for that first and add one later for the front based on my experience with it.

Doesn't always activate on command, needs cleaning every 2 weeks as hair gets jammed (so have to take off the rollers, filter, brushes etc), gets stuck all the time, can't seem to find its own way home on occasion. Sounds like I've been a bit unlucky though reading others experience

yeah, my hoover doesn’t quite deliver on the “set and forget” expectation - though it still is pretty good.

i think my other concern would be that part of my garden gets pretty waterlogged in heavy rain - how do these mowers cope with that?

I don’t understand how they can properly work unless you have an ultra minimalist lifestyle with no furniture Can’t do under the dining table properly or sofas or behind doors and the dogs hair messes up its brushes. I reckon its hour of deep cleaning is the equivalent to me spending 3 minutes with an actual vacuum.

Same - i probably spend as long as”preparing” the room (checking under the sofa for stray lego, blocking off the sliding door tracks that it gets stuck on, propping up the sofa it doesn’t quite fit under) as it would just to run a hoover round the areas i know will have 8 year olds crumbs spilt.

They're everywhere in Sweden. No idea how they set them up to avoid hazards - whether it's wire perimeter or other but they have some fairly "naturally edged" gardens in the suburbs. Even the municipal buildings in Gothenburg all had them.

If we ever get the back garden redone I'll be looking into one.

I've seen a video on Auto Alex of them plotting the boundaries of the garden using gps and an app. You can programme it to know where obstacles are as well. Really clever.
