What do you do?

1. Fuckit, I'd be on it like a fly on a dogshit. Several times a day, every day - show it off to my mum/brother/cousin Dave. Push it where I could.

3. Fuckit, I'd have to take it for a spin. Only once. Okay twice. Maybe three then. I'd need to push it a little.

6. Risks are too high. I'd get in and start it up, roll it out onto the drive, blip it a few times, and then return it to the garage.

7. Risks are too high. I'd sit in it. Maybe with my helmet on. And pretend I was driving it. Engine off.

9. I'd just lock the garage for a week and not go near it.

What would you do?

Your good mate has just purchased a BAC Mono. For arguments sake lets say it is this one.

Image

They have to head off on business for a week and have a temporary garaging challenge. You have a garage with space, and agree to look after it for him/her for 7 days.

Car is dropped off. They stress that you must have a shot - it's incredible. 8-) Just over 300bhp. 550-odd kg with all fluids. Around 550bhp/tonne.

It's late-January, and the full week is completely dry, but the temperature is hovering between 3-5 DegC every day. It's on pretty extreme summer/track tyres.

You live on an awesome, relatively quiet "drivers road". Fast sections and twisties.

You have a helmet and suitable clothing, fit in the car without issue, but you are only insured 3rd party via your own car insurance. It would cost £25k to get you insured on it - doesn't make sense.

Your friend confirms they are more than happy for you to take it out on a "you bend it, you mend it" gentlemens/gentlemanandgentlelady/mates verbal agreement.....

NOTE: for this imaginary scenario you may exchange the Mono for a very rapid car of your own preference around the £150k value zone.

Shame you cant insure it for a day on something like Veygo but I can imagine that may not be an option with something odd or exotic :(

Is there any option for "insure yourself on it properly"?

Where's the option to take it to the nearest track and spank the shit out of it for the afternoon?

@Nefarious Did this with the westfield. We had booked a track day and last min family stuff came up for him. "Fuckit just come get it" Legend.

Not my car, not ideal conditions to enjoy it even if the owner was with me. So lock it up and look after it for him, then ask for a go in summer.

As the owner appears to be fine with me driving his 512TR in winter then no problem at all.

I’d just give it a really good wash and fill the tank as way of thanks.

The tyres will be the issue - you’ll not even be able to go as fast as you would in your e-tron. I remember my M2 this time of year on supersports - massively held back.

I 3rd Jobbos suggestion, bank the favour and get you both at the same track day in the summer.

One thing that would influence me- did said mate drive it to your house or have it dropped off on a wagon/trailer

If they drove to my place, run route in own car, if feels ok then have a go, max 5-7 tenths of own ability push (not cars limits as that will be way way beyond that)

If it came trailer or wagon- not a chance, it’s staying put. If they didn’t drive I wouldn’t

Mate drove it to you, raved about it and stressed that you have to try it whilst they are away.

You ran them to the station in your car, and whilst you were out picked up your favourite curry and also some beers for later.

You've got to have a go just to see what its like, the throttle isn't an on off switch so you'll be fine.

What Dan says. I drove YKs GT3 the first few times with only my 3rd party coverage. I was just as cautious when he added me to the policy down the line, as I try to respect any car someone lets me drive.

I've always been very cautious driving cars that don't belong to me on the road, and would obviously treat them as I would my own, let temps get up etcs before giving it a bit, but no way would I be doing it on 3rd party insurance in this country.

I would (and have) in the US though, but much more rural and better weather!
