Petrol Taycan
Porsche CFO Meschke is quoted as saying they are looking at potentially adding hybrid or combustion engines to their currently only electric range of vehicles, as the demand for BEVs has dropped dramatically.. bad new for Jaguar!

Re: Petrol Taycan
I get it for the Macan and Coxster but would you both re-engineering the Taycan for ICE when the Panamera already exists?

Re: Petrol Taycan
Don’t know, but BMW offered the 5 series saloon and 6 series GC (and then the 4 GC) at the same time; guess they appeal to different parts of the market. Also Porsche don’t have to develop a new engine, they’ll just take on from another model, so it’s potentially only a question of “will it fit?” And with a 35% drop in sales of the Taycan in just one year, it may be that or cancel the product!

Re: Petrol Taycan
Not likely for the Taycan - low nose and would re-quire re-engineering the transmission tunnel for the F(ront engine)R(ear drive layout). More likely it'll get canned IMO.
For the 4x4s the electric version worked off the petrol platform and for the new Coxster everything is at the back so both much easier to re-engineer.

Re: Petrol Taycan
The 6GC was pitched higher than the 5, supposedly aimed at 7-Series buyers who wanted something slightly sportier.IanF wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:50 pm Don’t know, but BMW offered the 5 series saloon and 6 series GC (and then the 4 GC) at the same time; guess they appeal to different parts of the market.
So 6 is in between 5 & 7 ? Whod've have thunk it ??

Re: Petrol Taycan
Isn't that also the case for the electric Macan and Boxster/Cayman? They're on bespoke EV-only platforms too.Rich B wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 1:07 pm where would you fit an ICE in a Taycan? it would end up a proper bodge job!

You'd get plenty of storage for bundles of cash in the floor!
How about not having a sig at all?

Re: Petrol Taycan
then you’d need radiator/fuel tank/etc… You’d end up with a car with a huge footprint but no actual space. Sounds shit!

The 4GC/6GC/8GC comparison holds for me, it’s a mid point between big saloon and coupe.. may be Goldilocks, but other manufacturers are always finding gaps in the market that we didn’t know even existed!

I think that's what Porsche are afraid of!

It's a very tenuous inference from the article that they're considering an ICE Taycan. It's certainly not how I read it.

Is a taycan much smaller than a panamera? They look huge on the road, just quite low!

Re: Petrol Taycan
Seemingly not much in it but the bigger headlamps and windscreen rake, plus the extra couple of inches height on the Pan makes it look very different IMO.integrale_evo wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 2:23 pm Is a taycan much smaller than a panamera? They look huge on the road, just quite low!

If the underpinnings of the Taycan weren't substantially different to the Panamera they'd have just made the Pan a full EV instead I would have thought.
Simon seems to think the new Macan is based on different underpinnings (presumable etron Q3 or whatever its called) but would be interesting to know how much of that is a clean sheet versus a bodge of an ICE platform.

Re: Petrol Taycan
It is - the new EV platform also used for the Q6 E-Tron, new A6 E-tron etc: https://media.porsche.com/mediakit/batt ... ies-modelsGG. wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 2:32 pm Simon seems to think the new Macan is based on different underpinnings (presumable etron Q3 or whatever its called) but would be interesting to know how much of that is a clean sheet versus a bodge of an ICE platform.
As for the Taycan compared to the Panamera, externally they're not a dissimilar size. Internally the driving position of the Taycan is more like a 911, and the back seat and boot are much smaller than a Panamera. For normal day to day use they're not that comparable. But I think the Taycan drives a lot better than the Panamera; again, it has more in common with the 911 in the way it's tuned.
