Which Evora Is The Best Evora?

Post by mik »

Following some amusing light-hearted in-fighting on the Lotus forum..... why not here too?

Early series 1
Normally aspirated V6. Smaller (18" front, 19" rear) wheels. Arguably the purest variant.
Image

Late series 1
Some still NA, some supercharged so moh power obviously. Slightly bigger wheels (diameter and width). Manuel V6 mit supercharger arguably the coolest version for the coolest owners.
Image

400
More power. More aggressive styling. Slightly stiffer chassis, bigger brake. Easier access with smaller sills (cill?). Many complain the interior (particularly the Sparco rather than Recaro seats) is a cost-down exercise. Press didn't love the handling balance as much as the earlier cars.
Image

410
Smidge more power. Less angular front/rear. Last of the Evora manufactured
Image

430
Limited numbers. Most powerful variant sold. Most track focussed.
Image

GTE
Wide body. Very very few made. Based on S1 so may not be as quick (out of the box) as the looks suggest.

S1, one of those cars where every update made it uglier and I’m assuming the technical improvements are mostly bolt on.
An absolute unit

A lot of it comes down to the front bumpers and wheels imo. the early ones just look a bit lame, the later S1s definitely look a bit better/aggressive.

the GTE has the best front and wheels, so i like that best.

Yeah in terms of best looks to worst:
GTE
Series 1
400
410/430 - actually these look quite ugly to me.

No idea how they drive so can't comment beyond that.

Edit - are the extra vents on the GTE real? If they're fake it can FRO to the end of the list
How about not having a sig at all?

400 for me. Reason: looks the best.

The more aggressive styling really works. The launch editions were total meh for me.

Why is the Emira not in this list? That would win.

Anyway, of the options shown the first and second are far nicer than all later ones with hacked-about front bumper. I don't think I've looked at the 400 for a while and had forgotten about it. It's not a looker, is it.

And that's when the doctors realised that Jobbo had contracted Sevenblindness.

GTE looks the best, but I’m not a fan of the black side graphics on any of them. It does add a bit of 3D to the rear arches, but also makes them look too high in the middle, so a gte without the stickers for me please.
Cheers, Harry

There aren't any. So you'll just have to have a black one, so you can't see it. (I think this is one of the (two?) carbon bodied GTE's).

Clearly I only had one option and took it

To answer your question without trolling though - whichever one Harry M tested that screamed like a banshee - was that the 410?

ETA: 410 sport I believe.

Caught one ;)

You should apply for a job with evo mag - they tested the Nissan GTR head-to-head against the Evora 410 Sport and declared the 911 to be the winner :D

Where's the "Mik's one" option?

Edit: old manager had an early S1 in the same colour as the one pictured. He wasn't nice, so I don't like them.

I didn't spot 'Sausages' either. Are you sure this poll is properly run?

I described one option as "arguably the coolest version for the coolest owners". As we've met however - you were clearly unable to make the link

Soz. I thought you'd make it a more obvious poll option by calling it "mine".

I exclude the GTE in account of auto only. After that certainly based on the pictures mik posted the 410 looks like the best looking to my eyes. Plus a good dose of powah over the earlier stuff whilst still not being TOO EXTREME FOR THE ROAD as I assume the 430 is. Seems like the best option if one hasn't read all the reviews (which I assume say that they all have nugety steering anyway).

I'm surprised he didn't mention writing on the tyres, TBH.
