For those of us at a certain age (i.e it starts with a five).

The film Threads is on BBC 4 later this evening

I watched it recently, was surprised how effective it still was tbh.

I watch all manner of shocking/intense movies and it still hit me.

My English teacher showed it to us when it came out

Scared the crap out of everyone

I remember it being pretty traumatic

I've not seen it since, so interested to see how I feel this time around

I seem to recall there was another film of this ilk around the same time "The day after" or something like that...

Yes. I remember my Dad insisting we watched it.

Not seen either of those. Sound like the plot of a Stephen King story. Ah, and there was one as well https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Thunder

I was thinking earlier how the country would fare if we were to have a war on home turf - merely prompted by a local FB post complaining about a single firework going off at 9pm last night which then had about 30 other people complain about their dogs suffering, autistic kids crying, horses being spooked, trying to sleep due to night shit and then it descended to people just abusing each other online…

Nuke wiping everything out is probably the least cruel option.

People who set fireworks off in urban areas are cunts though.

Not disputing that the biggest impact of an invasion would be an argument between the racist aunties on facebook

Crikey, twice in a week. Yup, fireworks should be limited to professional displays over the 5/11 weekend (or nearest) only. Ban sales to the public and restrict their use.

For me, no. But organised displays would be OK.

I'm not sure I see the point of letting off fireworks in your back garden anyway, they're bound to be quite shit compared to a proper display.
