Servicing costs.

Just got a call from Sheffield Porsche (supplying dealer) re. my upcoming 4 year service and MOT. Just over £2000 sir - assuming nothing is wrong. The road tax is about £700 too. Kinnel, hope the insurance isn't too bad...

Got a 10 year (!) service coming up on the GTS next month so will be interested (read worried) so see what they want to do that.

Plus they'll have to take the back end apart to fix the spoiler but that hopefully should be warranty work.

Mine's under warranty until June next year, but depending on whether I bother renewing I'd take it to 9e.

No Porsche dealer I've ever been to has been anything other than underwhelming.

I've been really impressed with Porsche Tewkesbury - will definitely keep going there. But then I haven't had any £2k quotes for servicing work.

Keeping the warranty is a fair reason for using them and most servicing isn't £2k of course.

As I've said before, I've been delighted with Porsche Edinburgh, they've literally gone above and beyond when I bought this car and have been great in all interactions since.

I did extend the warranty and need to keep it dealer serviced to validate that. The 4 year service has replacement plugs and brake fluid changed, plus 'a thorough video made of the underside for you sir.' I'll see if Nottingham Porsche is any less expensive.

I assume they've got you over a barrel with the extended warranty but back in the day Porsche Cardiff were great for my 996 servicing at a reasonable cost.

I always had a discussion with the Service Manager about value and I had dealt with them for bits and bobs for the 968 so may have already set my poor ass stall out turning up in tracksuit bottoms and shoes on the weekend collecting stuff. They often price matched Indy prices if I asked or offered fixed price options as the car was over 3 years old.

£2k seems eye watering if that's just routine plugs, fluids, check over etc

Suppose they'll be chasing me up to order an electric Cayman next year as this is my 8th Porsche in a row. Can't see me being too interested - I don't even have batteries in my watches!

The amount you'd save by going Indy you could stick in a pot for any disasters you're hoping the warranty will cover.

Maybe things have changed, but many years ago when I looked at Caymans it seemed to be considered essential (after asking on a few groups) to service with Porsche for residuals, especially in the first 5 years or so - most Porsche buyers tended to be non-car people who wanted the history/warranty/assurance of a proper Porsche service history.

Not sure how that stands now, in all honesty. Still, £200/hour still feels insane to me - I nearly had a heart attack when Merc charged me £120/hour after mine broke down on the ramp at the MOT, and that was 10 years ago so I guess it's about right these days.

That being said, the major service on the QV is £2500 with Alfa, so.....

BMW were pushing hard to sign me up for a £110/month service plan, I didnt bother as it only needed a £250 main dealer service during the warranty period and there is an independent with a good reputation in Worcester.

A main dealer quoted circa £1500 for oil and brake fluid, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs.

My local Audi indy charges £170ph…

Going to try main dealer tomorrow and enquire about a service pack. They used to be pretty reasonable so I took my old one there right up until I sold it at ten years old. The guy who bought it raved about the history and said he wouldn’t have considered a car without full dealer history. Not sure how representative he is but I can only imagine people are more pernickety with Porsche.

Audi main dealer keeps trying to get me to sign up for a service plan too. The price because it’s an S6 is way more than it was with my old A6 Allroad, and presumably more than any other C8 shape A6 so it works out cheaper just to pay for each service. And I don’t end up selling it with a service left that I’ve paid for, as I did with my last Allroad…
