Aston Martin 1st half 2024 Results: A Pivotal Moment

Post by SSO »

Just posted up the analysis of Aston Martin's 1st half 2024 results.

https://ssoreport.com/aml-1st-half-2024-results

To deliver their 2024 Guidance, they will need to grow wholesales by 159% in the 2nd half vs, the 1st half actuals.

Layman’s perspective: they need to stop making daft projects that they struggle to make work like the Valkyrie etc and concentrate on getting a range of decent affordable (relative) road cars.

Is the daft cars that are generating the deposits needed to keep the lights on right now. Its a bit of a vicious circle.

Having prices on their configurator would be a start. The base model (Vantage) seems to be the best part of £200k now. Its a fabulous looking car which could easily compete with a 911 at £120-130k; but offering it only in 600+ bhp form at a price higher than a 911 Turbo massively limits potential sales.

Purely anecdotally, I rarely see any of the modern / current astons on the road. Back in the late 2000s it seemed like v8 vantages and db9s were everywhere.

I was thinking that I saw one not long ago but then realised I've not seen a new Aston for about 5 years!

That picture at the top of the article made me go "ooooooh!" in a way that Terry Thomas would be proud of.

So the TL:DR is "Still a basket case, management say it's not"?

Likewise, in the US, I've only ever seen two DBXs on the road.

I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road round here and like @Jobbo, thought I'd made a mistake when looking at the price of a new Vantage last week. Baffling.
Cheers,

Mike.

I'm much more likely to afford a Mustang.

Jeez, there are two within 100ft of my front door!

I test drove one a while back when they did an invite thing at my gym; lovely SUV, but felt quite old fashioned.. obviously they’ve updated it now, but I’m surprised they’ve not modernised the powertrain. I see quite a lot of DB11s around, big cars for our little roads and sat in a Vantage at SP and it was a very nice place to be, but it’s just an AMG GT in a fancy dress, which leads me to my point.

I think the one model, one engine option doesn’t allow them to maximise their demand, as Jobbo says they have the new Vantage at £180k, why not have a less powerful version at £140-150? (Mercedes is doing that)

Ofcourse, that would be a change in direction and, as you noted, Lance Stroll isn’t about to give up the reins, so won’t happen in the near future.
Cheers,

Ian
