It's coming home

Post by Simon »

Anyone?

Didn't even watch the first few games of the tournament and didn't really miss much it seems, but today was great. Amazing 1-2 from Watkins, inch perfect. The Spaniards make me nervous but we've everything to play for.

Yeah, was glorious to see us actually playing well for a change. Big group of us out for the game. Now on an empty bus replacement service on the way home but not sorry, totally worth it 😆

Was a great game, I enjoy internationals more than Premier League tbh, and have been watching the America’s equivalent (Copa de Americas, or something like that) also
Cheers,

Amazing performance last night, well deserved win (even if the pen decision was a bit iffy), and key to get it done in 90mins.

Playing an excellent Spain team in the final with a day less prep means it's a long shot to win it, but these players seem to have a little bit of something special so we've got a chance.

It’s our second Euros final in a row so we’re surely due a win soon!

It's been intensely frustrating watching England in this tournament but ultimately, it's working because they've made the final.

There's obviously method to the madness - perhaps bringing on subs earlier and then taking the lead gives the opposition more time to equalise or something - but it's a risky strategy that's paying off.

I still think Spain will win comfortably on Sunday but you never know in a one off, winner take all final.

A quarter final (knocked out by the eventual finalist) a Semi Final and Two Finals in his 4 tournaments - Southgate's had some run and arguably the best England Manager ever

This is the first time the men's team has reached the final of a major tournament on foreign soil, so it's a historic moment for sure.

What I could not understand about football fans were the calls for Southgate to be sacked when England were playing like crap in some of the earlier games. I don't follow the game closely; however, I was thinking precisely what you said: "Isn't he the best manager we've ever had?"

The argument is that while he is the best England ever had, with this crop of players a "better" manager would have won something...

It’s probably not a coincidence that both the mens and womens teams find form with managers who came up under Alex Ferguson.

2018 World Cup semi final
2020 euro final
2022 world cup qtr final
2024 euro final?

Most countries/teams would be pretty happy with these results under a manager - it's just that we play such boring football under Southgate that everyone hates it.

In 2016 we got beaten by Iceland...

The women’s team won the euros with one of the Nevilles, just an observation.

So you’re saying we need a tough authoritarian to be a great leader, to follow his strict regime and no messing about, just the fundamentals !

I knew you were a conservative!

Sarina Wiegman was the manager when the Lionesses won the Euro's in 2022. Phil Neville had already gone by the time they won. Not sure where the link to Southgate and Ferguson is either..?

It was a good game last night, I thought we played a lot better. My heart was pounding towards the end. Watkins scored a great goal! Spain will be really tough on Sunday. I'd like to see us win something in my life time.

Well I’m just embarrassing myself here

That’s what I get for trying to get involved with football chat, I could’ve sworn that Southgate played for man u.

Nope - and in fact Ferguson actively tried to block his first managerial appointment saying he didn't have enough of the correct qualifications...

Very disappointing but overall, the best team won. On the night and in the tournament
