Yes, they are legal. There’s nothing which says what size or shape a numberplate has to be, all the dimensions in the regulations relate to the characters and spacing and border to the edge of the plate. From memory there has to be a 10mm border.

Yeah, they made some changes to specifically clear up a few confusing parts, but they have specified that 3D characters are fine, as long as they're a single consistent colour.

None of those plates appear to have the makers details or the BS mark on them - which you could put down to being renders, but if they're meant to be representative of the product.....well, y'know.

11mm. I used to keep a copy of the regs in my VXR8 as I ran “motorbike size” font with 11mm border on the front.

I’ve seen a large number of hexagonal plates recently. Usually on a 1-series, A-class or A3. They look shit but are a good advance indicator of someone who will drive like a knobber.

Yeah, these plates are everywhere, particularly in the hot hatch fraternity. Not a fan myself. I've got a 'zero' plate on the front of the Elise, basically (as above) minimum legal size, spacing etc. It doesn't look that small (a lot run 3/4 plates which aren't legal), but just a bit smaller so looks a bit better than a full sized one.
