Trump guilty
Re: Trump guilty
Guilty on all 34 counts
But will anything actually happen?
There's nothing that stops him running for president again from jail
It'll martyr him in some quarters of course...

Re: Trump guilty
This is a good outcome. Can he run while serving a sentence? Seems impossible that he can run for president when convicted criminals can't vote (I think).

He could be jailed and still be President, the US is that weird.DeskJockey wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:21 pm This is a good outcome. Can he run while serving a sentence? Seems impossible that he can run for president when convicted criminals can't vote (I think).

Just heard his response - he’s such a disgusting human.
Re: Trump guilty
Whatever happens it will be something new.
A president sitting from prison.
Or
The first female US president.

Proof, not only that god exists, but she has quite the sense of humour.
That has been distributed amongst my WhatsApp groups. Some I did have to drop strong hints that they should not do this without the use of a VPN, a private tab and bleach for the eyes.

Despite convicted felons not being allowed to vote, or hold security clearance.Zonda_ wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:26 pmHe could be jailed and still be President, the US is that weird.DeskJockey wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:21 pm This is a good outcome. I made the mistake of googling Rob's first info on a work device.

To be fair, it was probably never anticipated as a possibility that they'd require a rule for(?)Zonda_ wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:26 pm He could be jailed and still be President, the US is that weird.
Below is the transcript of Trump's response to the verdict. I continue to be astounded that he receives support when he just slobbers absolute nonsense.
If he got sunburn he'd blame it on the Biden administration, and his followers (Trumpeters?) would believe him.
This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt. It was a rigged trial. A disgrace. They wouldn’t give us a venue change. We were at 5% or 6% in this district in this area. This was a rigged, disgraceful trial but the real verdict is going to be November 5 by the people. And they know what happened here and everybody knows what happened here. You have a Soros-backed DA and the whole thing. We didn’t do a thing wrong. I’m a very innocent man.
And it’s Ok. I’m fighting for our country. I’m fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt a political opponent. And I think it’s just a disgrace and we’ll keeping fighting, we’ll fight to the end and we’ll win because our country’s gone to hell. We don’t have the same country anymore. We have a divided mess.
We’re a nation in decline, serious decline. Millions and millions of people pouring into our country right now from prisons, and from mental institutions, terrorists, and they’re taking over our country. We have a country that’s in big trouble, but this was a rigged decision right from day one from a conflicted judge who should have never been allowed to try this case. Never. And we will fight for our constitution. This is long from over.
Thank you very much.
Re: Trump guilty
This is incredulous - i can't work for the government unless i get Security Clearance, Counter Terrorism Clearance, Background checks and credit checks. Yet you can run to be the president of America.Sundayjumper wrote: Fri May 31, 2024 9:28 amDespite convicted felons not being allowed to vote, or hold security clearance.Zonda_ wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:26 pmHe could be jailed and still be President, the US is that weird.DeskJockey wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 10:21 pm This is a good outcome. Re: Trump guilty
There's precedent from the 1920s with a socialist candidate called Eugene Debs (who was jailed for an altogether more wholesome reason of opposing the WW1 draft).
Apparently it is unlikely he will serve jail time and the appeal would push this back to beyond November so the likelihood of him campaigning from jail looks to be small.

Just looking at MP requirements here, I don’t seen an exclusion for those with a criminal conviction either but bankruptcy is listed
