Pretty sure I saw something the other day about the US already gearing up to deploy the tech on their vehicles, so probably a no.

Apart the Yanks field testing one on a Frigate for nearly a decade, yes.

As for terrifyingly tech advances in warfare I think autonomous drone swarms (air, sea and land) are way out in front.

If you believe what is in the public domain they're both ~50kW

Comparing apples with oranges a single Gepard 35mm shell has about a Megajoule of energy upon firing, not counting the internal explosive.

Although with the price of $1k+ per fancily fused fragmenting flying fret fvcker shell you can see the attraction of the lazors.
