Money taps on full flow for anything counter drone/uav now.
I can imagine laser systems sitting on top of every tank, APC and IFV in a very short number of years.

Pounds to pennies that they can't deploy it because the grid can't handle the load requirement.

Tenner a go? Brilliant. Wonder what else we can shoot.. people not picking up their dog shit?
Laser weapons were always going to be the next breakthrough in warfare. And does this mean the UK is actually leading the way.
in something?

Pretty sure I saw something the other day about the US already gearing up to deploy the tech on their vehicles, so probably a no.Alex88 wrote: Fri Jan 19, 2024 11:12 pm And does this mean the UK is actually leading the way.

I’m sure by the time we actually get to hear about it they’ve been around for ages

Apart the Yanks field testing one on a Frigate for nearly a decade, yes.Alex88 wrote: Fri Jan 19, 2024 11:12 pm Laser weapons were always going to be the next breakthrough in warfare. And does this mean the UK is actually leading the way in something?![]()

As for terrifyingly tech advances in warfare I think autonomous drone swarms (air, sea and land) are way out in front.

Re: Fricking Lasers!
My understanding was that the UK developed one is considerably beefier. Is that not the case?RobYob wrote: Sat Jan 20, 2024 9:52 amApart the Yanks field testing one on a Frigate for nearly a decade, yes.Alex88 wrote: Fri Jan 19, 2024 11:12 pm Laser weapons were always going to be the next breakthrough in warfare. Comparing apples with oranges a single Gepard 35mm shell has about a Megajoule of energy upon firing, not counting the internal explosive.
Although with the price of $1k+ per fancily fused fragmenting flying fret fvcker shell you can see the attraction of the lazors.

Sounds like the Uzi of torches
Yes, the Uzi had a ridiculous rate of fire, which just means you run out of bullets quicker
Sounds like this torch is so bright, you can't really use it (at full brightness)

Yup 50kW torches are probably best left to the turrets.DaveE wrote: Tue Jan 23, 2024 8:24 am Sounds like the Uzi of torches

Re: Fricking Lasers!
Did you watch Perun this week by any chance?
I'd not heard of that laser tank before then.
The US navy already deploying those big "dazzlers" on half a dozen Frigates was surprising.
Re: Fricking Lasers!
No, it just popped up on fb. I'll watch it now though
