Re: Friday Liquid Lunch
I'm on the water here, I mean, it's still a liquid at room temp if that counts?

Re: Friday Liquid Lunch
Wasn't a Friday, but met some old colleagues for lunch a couple of weeks ago, and by the time I had to make my way to a train station (around 4pm, long lunch), the fourth bottle of wine had just been ordered. It was lovely!

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow are very liquid lunches
I'm in Monaco for a few days with customers and it's been lovely. Lots of very nice Rosé.
Seen load of nice cars and walked around the F1 track as it's being set up.

We're working our way through the Endeavour series (Morse prequel) and it seems that all they did in the 60s was drink and smoke. The latter I can do without, but perhaps a longer lunch with some form of encouragement wouldn't be a bad thing. Not every day, but equally not once in a blue moon.

Reading a novel set in the 1930s and it seems like most people wouldn't think twice about polishing off a bottle of champagne with lunch.

Yeah, rules for doctors were a lot more relaxed back then..Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 6:06 am Reading a novel set in the 1930s and it seems like most people wouldn't think twice about polishing off a bottle of champagne with lunch.

30s and 60s? When I started work in the late 90s it was completely normal to have 3-4 pints at lunchtime 2-3 times a week. Seems crazy now!
Although, that said, a friend is a compliance officer for a boutique hedge fund and she tells me that, not only are they allowed to expense lunch/champagne, but that it's normal to not make it back to the office for the afternoon a couple of times a week
Sounds alright, but I'm not sure my liver would cope!

Re: Friday Liquid Lunch
"Bottles" of champagne were also regularly sold in pints in England rather than 750ml, so were a decent amount smaller. I think Pol Roger were supposed to be reinstating that option post Brexit but expect it came to nothing...IanF wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 8:35 amYeah, rules for doctors were a lot more relaxed back then..Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 6:06 am Reading a novel set in the 1930s and it seems like most people wouldn't think twice about polishing off a bottle of champagne with lunch.
