New fleet arrival

Post by Delphi »

As I've mentioned before the 928 isn't going to be ready in time for my Germany TIPEC trip, so I decided initially to get a cheap 986 Boxster to go in and then sell it when I got back. Most of them were pretty tatty and I realised that a gen 1 987 would be a better bet. All the sub-£10k ones were either sheds or had led hard lives. I upped my budget again and found this late 2008 (December) 64K mile gen 1 with FSH. It was due a minor service which the garage got done at a local specialist. I've ordered some ZunSport grills to protect the rads/A/C condensers and a Bluetooth FM transmitter (it's got the factory CD player) and should be good to go.

Nice purchase. It has the correct wheels too.

Are the gen 1s the 2.7?

Yeah, regular ones are 2.7 and the S were 3.2 then 3.4. Non-S is definitely the way to go, IMO - IMS issues were fixed in post 2006 cars, no bore score issues and not £600 per year VED either. The 2.7 is plenty quick enough in the real world and it's more about the handling than outright performance.

I like that. After seeing it on FaceyB I was waiting for your post here. More photos required though!

I'll get round to taking some more soon. It's a bit dirty now as I took it up to The Motorist for the 928.org meet up and it was raining on the way up. It's currently parked in my garage. I was curious about the size difference between the Boxster and the 928. Turns out the 928 is a mere 20cm longer and a whopping 37mm wider than the Boxster.

Memories of my own! (Except you don't seem to be suffering from that annoying issue of the hood overlapping the plastic around the windows)

Still a bargain at the price, even though you had to up the budget. Perfect for a European trip.

Hood straps. £2 bit of elastic from Hobbycraft and a stapler and it's fixed in 10 minutes.

Good purchase - he 2.7s make a glorious howl on the overrun.

58 plate must be pretty late for a .1 as well I would have thought.

Are hood straps like ghetto straps?

I like that. 2.7 would be my choice as the sweet spot as well.

It does make a rather nice noise once you get above 4k.

It was registered December 2008 so it's almost a 2009 car. Probably one of the last before the 2.9 Gen 2s came out.

Had a great time in ours - my parents gave me a few grand for my 21st and instead of me buying a really ratty Porsche with it, my dad 'kindly offered' to take the money back, put in some of his own and buy a Boxster we could both use. Was a no brainer.

Parked at my parent's place next to my £1,200 Alfa 156 with L322 in the background

Pit stop in the Alps on the way to Italy with my girlfriend of the time - shortly after a tunnel blast with two new f430s and shortly before a race down the mountain with an Italian Subaru :D

Annoyingly facebook has made the photos look like they were from a potatocam - though admittedly the album was uploaded 15 years ago :?

They do, particularly in pre-facelift IMO - sadly it didn't often drive as good as it looked.

I did fit some GTA suspension to it though which improved the handling (at the detriment of ride quality...)

I would add at this point that I bought the 3.2S over the 2.7 specifically on @GG. ’s advice! While I test drove the 2.7 I probably didn’t know enough to get into the nitty gritty of the differences.
