Too hard to get that microturbine through emmisions due to length of warmup and "idle" AFAIK. So they then went down the conventional ICE+hybrid route before canning the lot because it was too heavy and they wanted to spend the money on the Gaydon Triangle amongst other stupid things.

The more I look at it, that view of the car is just utterly embarrassing. That looks like someone has knocked it up in their shed for their local soapbox race or Batman (Michael Keaton-era) cosplay.
