A list of V12 engined cars

Post by V8Granite »

I was trying to think of affordable (well, less than 40k) sports cars with a V12 engine and a manual gearbox.

Currently it’s DB7 V12
You have the rare manual XJS
BMW 850

Most of the ones I can think of are large saloons or cruisers.

I know I’m missing lots but am having a brain fart.

I don't know how many cars that came from the factory in that configuration that also fall in your price bracket.

The DB9 had a manual for a short time. There was a story on Pistonheads earlier - https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-spo ... sale/45243.

Although, 40k might be pushing it a bit...

Or maybe not http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details ... obcid=soc3

I get the point. Merely stating that it might be a short conversation.

Given that @V8Granite started the thread, would DIY conversions be allowed? Seems a few options for various generations of BMW 750 and 760.

Can we get derailed into an argument about what constitutes a "sports" car please ?

A car which is sporty, so for example a 760 Li sport manual, should it exist, constitutes a sports car.

Anything with sporty intentions.

First one I went in was a yellow 512tr M. Sounded awesome. Couldnt believe how a 100k car in the 1990s could be so shoddy inside. But then thats not what it was about.

They were a bit agricultural from that era but I liked them for that and almost attainable a few years ago. I'm sure they were sub £100k, crazy now though at £300k+ !

My mate had his as a company car - cost something ridic like 10k a year in tax. He didnt keep it long and got a lamborghini murcielago before deciding a range rover was better day to day.

So is it just the word “sport”, or the manual gearbox ?

My 740d is a “sport” but nobody in their right mind would call it a sports car.

It must have a manual gearbox, no dsg either.

So if a sales rep was given the choice but he still likes driving, he would have ticked the manual option.

There aren’t many affordable, relatively speaking, manual V12 cars about.
