Before ICE Goes – One Last Wish for Ferrari & McLaren

Post by SSO »

Just posted a new blog outlining the last ICE car I would like to see both Ferrari & McLaren build:

Would you buy one? What would you change?

I do like the McLaren idea but wouldn’t the Ferrari just emerge as sanitised (i.e Electronically Interfered with) F50

Why not just re-create a limited run of the original ??

The weight you save with the F40 inspired cockpit would be cancelled out by the traction control gubbins no?

I’ll be honest though, the 288/F40/F50/Enzo article from the mag a while back has cemented the F50 as “the one to have”, even over the F40

Well I think you're preaching the to choir here about analogue supercars :D

The Luca sounds like a GM T50 at a fifth the price so bring it on! I'd forgo silly 20s though as designers are freaking obsessed with oversized rims with little to no actual performance benefit as far as I can see. A nice set of compact CCM brakes and keep the wheels to a staggered old school 17-18" F40 look alikes.

As for the Bruce, weeeeellllll Immanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable....

Ahem.

A long loooonnng way from anything they've recently made so hard to judge how well they'd accomplish it. How about they nick Honda's V6 from the NSX, wind it up to 11(000) and you'd have the fantasy McLaren/Honda road project.

The Gospel of Monty Python.....

19" or 20", either would work for the wheels. I think a V8 or more has to be a given. End of an era needs to be based on the best of the era.

You cant really do a new limited run of the F50s, it would not pass today's homologation requirements. Adding traction control does not add that much additional weight.

It was that EVO article that originally got me interested in buying an F50.

It was the real winner, wasn’t it.

All the Guys completely changed their views of it after that test.

I will yield to your better knowledge about Homologation Rules. I suppose things like ‘pedestrian impact requirements’ are mandatory, as are emissions etc but are things like Traction Control, ABS et al mandatory ??

It was and having driven all four, the F50 deserves the title.
