992 Turbo S

So I mentioned it in the ongoing thread but this probably deserves its own.
So my mate recently swapped out his 991.2 manual GT3 for this: new 992 Turbo S.
I got 20 minutes in it yesterday.
TLDR
Fast, too fast!?
So it’s firm, firmer than expected and more than happy to pootle about changing gears itself, let it all warm up and the first time
I booted it I was genuinely shocked, no fuss just crazy, 20-80mph is absolutely ridiculous, a quick google afterwards reckoned 0-124mph in 8.9 ffs
The 911 is a big car now, the interior doesn’t seem that much bigger than my 996, the tech is light years ahead obviously but it’s still small inside but it is no longer a small car!
I was decidedly meh at the photos, in the metal it’s stunning, the back end which looks too high is fine, all 911’s seem to do the same trick tbh.
You have all read the reviews, a consummate all rounder with performance that being honest is totally useable in the real world.
By two boys, 6 and 12 both preferred the GT3. They ain’t wrong.
His reasons for the change were understandable, too low, too hard but at over 170k and that’s light on the options..
I would absolutely have one, who wouldn’t but for me it’s the RWD one with the NA and the manual.
Also for a car that expensive, it turned no heads, go out in an huracan and you are “famous”

Hmm nice but not sure if it’s £170k nice, that’s treading on delivery mileage 488/Huracan territory.

But isn't that part of the point? That it doesn't turn heads and allows the owner/driver to be left in peace. Supposedly also less maintenance heavy, although that could well be historical/hyperbole.
Only experience is of a former customer who bought a Maserati GranSport (and a 599GTB when they both were new) and traded the Maser after less than six months because it didn't do his >1km commute well and kept breaking (ignoring the stupidity of driving that distance in the first place), replaced it with a 997 Carrera 4S.

Impressive
I keep seeing 992 steering wheels and feel that they need some metal or carbon trim.
Gloss black plastic doesn't cut it on 100>180k cars

Yeah, over a given B road I am struggling to imagine a quicker car!
20/21” wheels, the front brakes are 410mm, that’s bigger than my lotus front wheels

It’s lovely, reading it back it’s almost like I am down on the car, it’s an absolute weapon, perfect daily, but, it’s just too good/too quick!?

That's ridiculous. Although if you ever fancy trying some solid metal wheels you know where to go.
I know they're very different beasts, but how does it stack up against the Loltus in terms of being pushed back into the seat when you floor it (ignoring the undoubtedly rigid race buckets in the Lotus)?

Porsche does the classic silver and red combo so well. I love it.
The TTS, all the reviews sing its praises; but like you said it’s probably too competent. A 991.2 Carrera T (which looks superb) with a remap at Litchfield / 9E wouldn’t be that much slower and save 100k. Apples and oranges of course.

Hard to say, for a road car it blew me away, come out a slow corner and boot it on a track and you always want more..
It’s power to weight is “only” 391
The lotus is 522
However off the line the 911 would destroy it, and the way it went from 20-80 not a lot will drive past it
There’s autobahn videos to vmax and the continued acceleration
is alarming!
It would be great to feel them both up the drag strip and round a track!!

Power is a right cunt, you get used to it too easily. First time accelerating full beans in a Tesla “omfg it’s like travelling into another dimension” - few months later “could do with 100 more bhp”

The allen bolts look absolutely awful to me. Shame because the shape of the wheel looks rather lovely otherwise.
£170k is a lot, but it's still got £15k of options on it to get to that so not exactly bare.

I guess it comes back to what sort of car(s) you want in your garage, but I totally get the appeal of a Turbo which just seems so capable and placid enough for everyday use but also crazy fast when you want it to be.
Those bolts on the steering wheel really are a strange decision though. Nit picky I know...

Hmmm, Turbo S or a DBX for roughly the same money?
