I think if I had an ev I'd pay a bit extra to park just not to have to have a stupid green bit on my numberplate 😂

I'm sure plenty of EVangelists will wear it as a badge of honour/eco snobbery, so another reason to avoid having one

It doesn’t even work like that, parking prices already depend on emissions in London and it’s all based off the number plate and pay by phone. I’m not sure why we need to go backwards with having physical clues as the parking enforcement must already scan each reg as they walk past.
Unless of course they want to fully ban ICE vehicles in certain locations and this allows police an easy way to spot them from far away, but nah our trusting government would never shaft us like that would they...

They look wank. Give it a few months and I’m sure the Tesla tossers will have turned them into a symbol of some who is holier then thou and anyone without one is Satan’s own off spawn.

Guessing they’re doing this so traffic wardens can tell the Difference between ice/hybrid and full electric versions of the same vehicles

How long before someone uses some green electrical tape to "attach" the left hand side of their number plate as a "temporary fix" because "the mounting screw came out"?
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

You’ll just be able to order a legitimate green plate off the internet with no documents, just like you can now, and fit that. No one will know what’s a hybrid any more, even the Fiesta is getting a ‘mild hybrid’ powertrain and although it’s not going to qualify for a green plate 99% of people won’t know enough to make out the difference between a PHEV and an MHEV. Plus more and more cars are coming as a hybrid or BEV with no or very little styling changes, e.g. the all electric Golf and Focus; very few will spot one out in the wild and twig it’s the lesser spotted electric only variety. Cars can be de-badged easily. Even the Mustang is going hybrid at the next generation and Ford have said the electric only Mach E is a ‘Mustang’, most people just hear ‘Ford Mustang all electric’ and assume they’re all Tesla copies. Hardly anyone will keep up, of those who do even fewer will have any great level of confidence so it’s ripe for abuse.

I may even fit some to my Mustang and leave the 5.0 badges on it

Wonder if anyone will be fooled by green plates on my 1987 928 S4? Yes, it has a 5.0 V8 but it does have a battery for starting purposes

To be honest with the amount of places shoving ‘dead’ electric car running gear into a classic you’d probably get away with it on your Porsche within the next decade.

It’s nonsense really. No cost to govt, anything that relies on determining if a car is electric for tolls, parking, etc does it from the reg number itself.

About the only positive thing is it would probably help to show the uninitiated how many EVs there are out there now, on their local streets and car parks. A small proportion of people might be able to spot a first generation Leaf but lots of cars (like my own egolf) are only spotted by EV nerds.

The way the EV goes about it's business does encourage the driver to chill and cruise, strangely, I often find myself gently wafting about. I'm less and less concerned with range as I don't go far enough for it to be a concern, and the urgency it can take off from lights is fun occasionally (had the same derv can try it on at two sets off lights last night) you don't tend to bother.

That said, there are a lot of EV owners that seem to enjoy wasting their lives hugging lorries on the inside lane 😆

The green plate thing just feels like a waste off time, open to misuse and not really encouraging people to make the shift.

They look awful and the fact they’re called 4d makes me want to stab anyone advertising them.

Unless they allow time travel too, then they’re pretty cool.
