Albert Uderzo

He's drunk his last potion and eaten his last roast boar.

The Asterix comics were a staple of my childhood.

Finding an Asterix book in the library as a kid was like finding a nugget of gold.

Absolutely loved them! My dad used to pinch them when I had them out the library as he got jokes aimed at the older generation. I have looked in libraries locally and no sign of them.

I didn't realise Goscinny had been dead for so long! Used to live visits to book shops as a kid to see if a new book had come out, I still have a collection of around 30.

Damn. I can’t remember if it was french or Spanish but I read all the comics in one of those languages, iirc there was a tv cartoon as well that we’d get as a treat.

Don’t recall there ever being a cartoon, a couple of the books were made into animated films in the 80s

I definitely remember watching moving pictures depicting the Asterix characters on some kind of a screen. Beyond that, I couldn’t say if they were a TV cartoon, an animated film, a made for TV film, a feature length animation or anything else.

Gérard Depardieu played Obélix in the live action stuff.

I was fortunate that my neighbour’s kids had the complete set of books when I was about 7 or 8; they let me borrow them all to read. I only own Asterix in Britain but I still quote from it even now (the bit about hot water with a dash of milk particularly).

Just wonderful. RIP.

I read plenty but couldn't quote anything. I'll have to have a re-read and possibly a watch. The illustrations always make me smile, full of energy and fun :D

Turns out I have Asterix and the Magic Carpet as well, though that’s a later Uderzo only book and first published in 1989, so not from my younger childhood. I don’t remember getting it, but it must have been when I was at university.
