Yeah, diplomats don’t get paid as much as you’d think do they.

The carrot must be the hope of an ambassadorial or cabinet post.

Just increase their allowance.

Oh yeah, I'm fine with that. I just can't get my head around not increasing their allowance and, instead, asking a business to now give a discount to cover the increase!

It's not that, it's because having a solar farm creates a consistent income stream that can be higher per acre, and far less volatile than arable crops. Also the farmer doesn't need to do much either, nor worry about droughts or rains ruining their crop, because the sun comes up every day for the solar. Some farms also have animals grazing amongst the solar panels. Or maybe you'd prefer arable crops to be grown, you know wheat, barley etc the stuff you don't eat

I meant to say - if a farmer's entire crop fails because of rain or drought, they make a loss for the year, simple as that. It's understandable that solar makes sense with our current high energy prices, until we crash into the sun.

But then again, it also makes sense to develop mixed farming methods so they don't rely on one single crop either.

I imagine all those large solar farm projects are funded by large corporations. They cost millions to set up, I doubt even someone like Clarkson could afford the initial outlay.

They are. Like wind farms also. The landowner will just get a "rent", for want of a better word.

Is the rent a pittance? I'd imagine just chucking wild flower seeds and entering the stewardship scheme would be better and you won't end up with land which will not be tied up forever more and looking out to an eyesore.

Yes. Good idea. Until the EU banned the pesticides that made many of the alternate crops viable. Cabbage stem flea beetle decimated OSR anyone?

Harry Metcalfe’s latest farm video on YouTube mentions the protests being arranged about farm APR/IHT. I wonder if Jist Stop Oil will piggyback on this because they can get a publicity benefit from any disruption without it being imprisoned, presumably.
