The r-send of the 996C4S really is quite a thing

When are you bringing it to Scotland? You need to have a go in mine! The Nitron's are a well worthy upgrade.duncs500 wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:55 pmAlmost everything at some point I guess. It's an easy car to spend money on, so many shiny things available!scotta wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 3:57 pmWhats on your mechanical list?duncs500 wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 1:53 pm I've seen some horror stories on the price of resprays lately. Perhaps some places are getting spoiled by insurance money and it's creeping into their private work?![]()
I'd like to get the Elise done at some point after I've got everything I want mechanically done, but at this rate it's just not going to be worth it.
My logic is to future proof everything else so that if I decide to go for more POWAH later it will be ready. Breaks and suspension are probably first, then I'll start thinking about the engine.
The only thing in my mind is that I don't want to change it visually, I want it to be able to gobble up a good track session, I want it to remain an enjoyably car to drive on the road and able to do road trips. Basically I want the moon on a stick, but I think it's broadly do-able if you're not chasing laptimes.
Edit - This is part of the reason I bought a leggy example, I have long held a desire to for want of a better word 'personalise' my cars, but have been in the habit of buying cars that I was relying on the resale with and couldn't afford to or would feel somehow guilty about moving away from standard. This car was never going to be a pristine example and so I'm just going to have fun with it.
I'd love to! But probably won't be up there for a while sadly. Didn't know you had Nitrons, which ones? I was thinking Nitrons would be too firm / track focused, but from what I'm reading they can be set up in such a way that work well for both.scotta wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:32 am When are you bringing it to Scotland? Brakes don't need to be spendy. I run the standard pagid discs with upgraded CL RC5+ pads and Motul RBF660.
Have you had the geo done?
First on your list should be a pro alloy rad if thats not already been done.
Do you still have the red clutch hose?
Photos just cos.
Might be the engine mounts but never investigated too far tbh.Broccers wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:21 amCan't be unseen nowSundayjumper wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:07 am For ÂŁ25k they would have made sure the exhaust was straight![]()

Boxster back in the garage as since getting the nearside rear wheel bearing replaced it has squeaked - gave it a week or so after thinking it was other cars making the noise not mine![]()
Check the bulb holder and the central sprung tab will probably be flat. Bend it up, ours have done that on the brake bulbs and this sorted it, it gets a bad connection and ends up flickering over bumps etc which creates a small arc and ultimately blows the bulb regularly.DeskJockey wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:23 am BREAKING NEWS!
Galaxy blew the O/S brake bulb again. That's something like 3-1 O/S v N/S.
I replaced it.
Nitron Street series 2. I have road and track settings i can share with you. bit looser for road comfort and tighter for track. Back to back makes a big difference.duncs500 wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 9:44 amI'd love to! But probably won't be up there for a while sadly. Didn't know you had Nitrons, which ones? Haven't had anything done yet, it's going to take time to save up for these things. Probably I'll replace the tyres first, then get suspension/dampers/geo done at the same time after that.
Then breaks.
Yeah, the rad is done at least. No idea on the clutch hose.
Did you notice any extra harshness from it? I'm thinking of doing similar on the BMW at some point as I think mine are a little saggy/spongey (and will likely be the original hydraulic mounts).Sundayjumper wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 10:56 am I didnât think my engine mounts were too bad until I took them out and the oil went all over the floor !
I âdowngradedâ to normal ones instead of oil-filled. Not too expensive and easy to do.
