When I washed the car yesterday I popped the bonnet up to clean the engine bay as it was bloody filthy! Spruced up quite nicely.

Whipped the cover off to see it in all its canted over splendor

16".
Gone from 17x6.5 on 195's to 16x7 on 205's with a smaller offset, so it kicks out a little more too.
It's strange how the Goodyear Eco 195 tyres on a 6.5" rim were completely square to the rim, yet the the Eagle F1's (205 on a 7" rim) have a huge overhang. Good for rim protection, but it doesn't make sense from a measurement perspective.

Tyre measurements have always been somewhat approximate.
Re: Your fleet running reports
First quote in to repaint the 500e.
I wanted it fully painted but no engine bay.
Price was £25000 not including new seals or any parts.
I declined
I’ve got someone coming over hopefully tonight or tomorrow for another inspection and quote.

I hope they included a handjob for their customers at that price - it's the least they could do while they're fucking themV8Granite wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 10:28 am First quote in to repaint the 500e.

Re: Your fleet running reports
For that price I’d expect all 4 cars to get done
I am not naive to the price of a good glass out spray job but blimey that’s a bit rich.

Crikey.
I was planning on letting someone who knows what they’re doing do my e30 at some point. I was hoping for around £5k for a decent exterior paint, up to £10k depending on what horrors they find. No underside / engine bay stuff.

5k to do the spray work and then any repairs are extra is the ball park figure. I’d budgeted for 10K and don’t think that’s in-reasonable. I’m fully aware that if something is found it’s easy to have a few days repairing a panel which adds a grand on top too quite easily.
I’ve seen some spray jobs on cars at car shows and they are awful, either overspray or trim just masked off etc. It’s a real skill so I’m happy to pay but either work is plentiful for them or they just don’t want to do it.

I've seen some horror stories on the price of resprays lately. Perhaps some places are getting spoiled by insurance money and it's creeping into their private work?
I'd like to get the Elise done at some point after I've got everything I want mechanically done, but at this rate it's just not going to be worth it.

Painters are all mental, must be all the solvents they sniff.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Speaking of mental, got a quote from a reputable mobile alloy repairer and he quoted me £150 to refurb one diamond cut 19" alloy.

It's not recent, body shop wanted near £700 to fit and paint a wing on my Puma.duncs500 wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 1:53 pm I've seen some horror stories on the price of resprays lately. Perhaps some places are getting spoiled by insurance money and it's creeping into their private work?![]()

My local guy did it for a third of that, and didn't need a new wing either.

Almost everything at some point I guess. It's an easy car to spend money on, so many shiny things available!scotta wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 3:57 pmWhats on your mechanical list?duncs500 wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 1:53 pm I've seen some horror stories on the price of resprays lately. My logic is to future proof everything else so that if I decide to go for more POWAH later it will be ready. Breaks and suspension are probably first, then I'll start thinking about the engine.
The only thing in my mind is that I don't want to change it visually, I want it to be able to gobble up a good track session, I want it to remain an enjoyably car to drive on the road and able to do road trips. Basically I want the moon on a stick, but I think it's broadly do-able if you're not chasing laptimes.

Edit - This is part of the reason I bought a leggy example, I have long held a desire to for want of a better word 'personalise' my cars, but have been in the habit of buying cars that I was relying on the resale with and couldn't afford to or would feel somehow guilty about moving away from standard. This car was never going to be a pristine example and so I'm just going to have fun with it.
