When my Mrs lost hers I just went to a slightly shadier "cash only" type garage in Slough rather than a Kwikfit. They sorted it.

Great. I'm similarly looking at Merc CLS 350CDis. Alternating between liking ones that are low mileage vs liking ones that are cheaper and higher mileage but have had money spent on them.

The human brain can convince itself of anything so I am no longer sure what is right or wrong .... I do feel there is a difference between ones that have gone through brakes, clutches, etc and generally been abused vs eaten up motorway miles though.

There is no other type of deposit. The guy I bought it off set his kitchen on fire while I was there but otherwise seemed trustworthy.

What type of locking nut is it ? If it's the Porsche one surely a Porsche dealer can get you the right one if you take the car down there and show them ?

I've done that with both Porsche & BMW in the past. Errr... for a friend I mean. Not for my own cars.

Yip, Porsche can do it but not until next Friday and its a minimum charge of an hour’s labour. Which is fine, I’ll get the garage to pay that.

But I keep rescheduling the mobile tyre fitters as the rears are on the wear indicators....

Annoyingly, the Porsche specialist who serviced the car and fitted new discs also ordered a new set of bolts and a key from Porsche in Germany. But have ordered the wrong ones....

Whaaaaaaattt ? Robbing gits ! When "my friend" had the same problem, they got a bloke out from the workshop with a master set of keys, figured out which one I needed, job done. That is not an hour's work !!

Just booked my 6 year old Cayman GTS in for its service and MOT in October. Apparently if there's nothing wrong MOT-wise it will cost less than £1k... Good job it's the small service!

I couldn't say which is better, really - mine has done 11,000 miles so far without any cost except a new rear wiper blade though. Based on the minimal tyre wear over the first 10k miles I would say a high miler which has sat on the motorway is a great buy, except they aren't that much cheaper.

I assume the performance is always acceptably rapid with a flex of your right foot?

No luck, Porsche Edinburgh are too busy to undo the four bolts, so would need to be booked in for an hour minimum in a week+.

I guess I just have to take my chances with Kwik Fit tomorrow, or go and buy a larger socket and get hammering.

Hmm, what cunts, BMW just gave my tyre fitter the entire box of keys and then I returned it.

Mine is the pre-facelift so 7-sp box, no Adblue (does have space saver spare wheel instead) and slightly more power (265bhp plays 248bhp). It is nicely effortless, doesn't feel overpowered for the chassis like the C350 CDI did but it's very Merc in that it has a long, stiff accelerator pedal so you won't accidentally put your foot down hard. It's a conscious flex.

Great car, very much a relaxing cruiser though it is unexpectedly fun to drive on smaller roads. You won't be chucking it around though

ETA: just saw your post in the other thread; mine's the W218; the W219 is better looking (IMO) and a lovely car too but I think the W218 is probably a more sensible purchase. Either generation, memory seats weren't standard and (again IMO) you need them to get the full luxury Merc effect. You can tell they're fitted because the little seat-shaped adjuster is on the door next to the door handle.

Gator grip socket thing has failed as has another couple of sockets. So I’ll just have to plead ignorance with Kwik Fit tomorrow and see what they can do.
