Im sure the scratch was entirely related as was the rim damage...

C220d performing admirably on France trip. Great run from N.Yorks to Folkstone, 297 miles at an average speed of 75 doing 54.5mpg. Not too shabby. From calias to CdG airport the average dropped a little to 68 but mpg was 53.8.

A super car to do miles in. Really comfy and quiet and managed to get a fair amount of stuff packed into it.

OK so this is getting sorted.

Got the police report confirming it wasn't my fault (pre-requsite to a paint shop repairing it here), got a quote from the same body shop that I was so happy with on the Toyota and the Hummer chick has agreed to just transfer the cash without dicking about with insurance.

Ordered the new boot tail lights from the US (also on her tab obviously) and will get it to the shop tomorrow for them to get going on the repairs and paintwork.

Life ain't that hard sometimes 👍🏼
I'm glad you're getting it sorted, but are you sure it's just the boot and lights that need sorting? What about the:

Audi rings
Lock mechanism
Striking pin
'Slam panel'
etc etc?

I think the bigger point is that it looks more than just the boot and lights that are buggered. That slam looks bent.

I think the confusion is the fact that I've never heard of someone having to order their own bits when it's being sorted by a repair shop on someone else's dollar (or whatever mickey mouse currency you sand dwellers use).

I took my M3 into a local bodywork place last week, it was just down the road so no hassle. As I pulled in I saw it wall to wall Rolls Royce and Range Rovers...

They were keen to give me a quote though so I thought I might as well find out.

One grazed bumper repair/respray - £1200 😂

Then a mate of mine reminded me of a local guy that I had actually used when I crashed my 325 sport all those years ago - so I’ll see what he can come up with!

UPDATE

Caterham Superlight R

I normally drive the Caterham in ballistic rated goggles. These seem to work ok, although you obviously get buffeted slightly and seem to naturally limit speed to relatively sensible levels to prevent the sensation becoming unbearable. Last week I bit the bullet and decided to go full-bell-end and take it out with my helmet on.

I had a great drive, it's significantly more comfortable and I naturally drove faster without really thinking about it.

It's not a subtle car anyway and you have to be prepared to be gawped at. But with a lid I felt like erm, a bit of a helmet.

On the plus side, nobody could actually see my face and identify me. Also bikers started nodding and acknowledging me which is an unexpected phenomenon. All good though. In fact the car seems to bring universally good feedback from other road users and pedestrians for that matter. People of all types seem to wave and smile. I've also had quite a few cars indicate left and wave me past when I approach from behind on single carriageway national speed limit roads, which is a turn up compared to the usual light flashing and fist shaking most motorists offer anyone who dares to overtake nowadays.

Actually sorry you're right - £1200 was the price for just the bumper on the 911. It was £3000+ for what they'd consider a proper job :roll:

I'd only agreed £1,200 with Veolia's insurers as I was sure they'd fight harder if I tried to get a claim through for the full amount so stuck with the quick and dirty (i.e. perfectly adequate) approach.

That must be a bright yellow thing - I got that quite a lot in the Puma (no, really) and as you say it never felt like they were letting you past begrudgingly or to let yourself 'get on the way to your accident' - always a thumbs up or a smile, often from some old folk in a Micra or something who were just out for a pootle on a quiet backroad.

Never really though about it till you mentioned it, but I've never had it happen in any other car I've driven, period. There must be something non-threatening about a very yellow, jolly car being given beans or summat?

Pfft, it's only the exhaust - must be a loose or saggy hangar, and it's moving around and cowping a heatshield or summat. Yes, cowping is a word...

There's a kerb outside my front door that starts low and gets much taller further along, so I might see if I can cheekily back the car up it some night this week, have a wee look and find out more specifically what's going on - all the jacks, axle stands etc are with my bro in Scarbs, not with me, annoyingly. Mind you, he's needed them more lately so I'll not grumble too much on that front ;-)
