Taptv let's you watch loads of channels through the stick, the Sky ones are all there. I was watching Sky F1 yesterday.

Sounds good. How much does it cost?

Nothing, you just download it to the Firestick. There is another app called Cyberflix that has all the latest films in dvd quality not the usual filmed in a cinema crap.

Nope but I'm not taking out a Sky subscription just for one channel.

If you know anyone with a Sky box they will have a few free online subscriptions which are probably not being used. I use one on my Mac mini and one for my PS3 - doesn’t have all the channels but has Discovery and F1 which are the only things worth watching. That said when I was in hospital during a race weekend I just searched for a stream and always found a decent one to watch on my phone.

Reason silverstone is more expensive than other F1 races is it’s now the only one on the calendar that doesn’t receive any government funding to help with the costs. It’s the reason they canned the current agreement and are renegotiating a new one- Bernie’s idea was you pay F1 to show up, loose an astronomical amount of money hosting the race and then make it up by selling track days and experiences based on your F1 racetrack credentials.

Statement at time of contract cancellation:

"By running the British Grand Prix we sustained net losses of £2.8m in 2015 and £4.8m in 2016 - that's £7.6 million over two years. We expect to lose a similar amount this year. To continue on this path is not only unsustainable, it would put at risk Silverstone, the home of British motor racing."

This was also the risk to F1 at Silverstone when there was talk of selling it, no business in their right mind would buy Silverstone and look at Bernie’s contract and decide to renew it based on the current terms.

My guess would be it was the only option, I’d imagine Bernie have them a take it or leave it option with very little wiggle room- plus it started out at one price with a 5% year on year increase

I am looking forward to the season. Midfield looks very close and the top 3 from last season may be closer as well which would be fantastic. I hope Renault are not flattering to deceive though as a 4 way battle for race wins would be decent.

It’s not cheap, but to call it boring means you’re clearly doing it wrong. It takes some planning and effort to get a decent spot on race day (with big screen too) if you’ve not got a grandstand ticket, but when you do, a 2 hour race feels like about 45 minutes.

Any other tips? I'm going this summer, Fri-Sun.

We're going to Monaco this year. My experience is that watching motorsport in lots of ways is better on TV in terms of following the race, but soaking up the atmosphere is very different when you're there. So we're having 2 weeks cheap Eurocamping in the south of France, with a weekend in Monaco. €1500 for decent seats but YOLO etc.

It’s not cheap, but to call it boring means you’re clearly doing it wrong. It takes some planning and effort to get a decent spot on race day (with big screen too) if you’ve not got a grandstand ticket, but when you do, a 2 hour race feels like about 45 minutes.

Any other tips? I'm going this summer, Fri-Sun.

scope out any spots you like on the Saturday, then arrive MEGA early on the Sunday if you want to get any of them (there are literally 3x the people on race day).

Make sure you have a big screen in view and get a circuit radio.

We ended up in a spot overlooking Abbey (wasn’t our first choice, but the busyness caught us out) but it turned out to be awesome because it was the last bit of the circuit to dry, so caught lots of drivers out.

This just can’t be true. £200 is the late 90s would be like £250-£300 now. There’s no way anyone was charging or paying £50 for what’s about half a pint

€14 for a regular coffee in the café across in Casino square - 2005, mid week, nowhere near the GP weekend.

Hopefully if they work in F1 they'll be BRDC guest tickets. I've been on them a couple of times and they are amazing!
