i didn't even know that they existed as a modern rerelease! Very cool, despite being Beige (which sounds far better as "Sahara Beige"!)

I know they still sell a 79-series still in South Africa; it's probably the fact that they only seem to come as pickup bodies which means nobody bothers to import them: https://www.toyota.co.za/ranges/land-cruiser-79

Yeah, there's like totally no market for the Navara, Hilux, L200, Amarok, etc pickups in the UK. None at all !

But they're already here and you get tax breaks for buying them - why bother importing a cool retro alternative and losing that benefit?

Like that, painting it forest green and getting some Kragar soft eights on it would make it just right.

to be fair, the market for older pick ups is strong over here. Particularly 80s single cabs. They should do a re-release of them!

You can still get the non-pickup 70 series in NZ in 5 door and the odd looking 3 door with two 90L fuel tanks that must be eye watering to brim:
