Don’t see it on UK lotus website? Is this an i4 with 400bhp?

It’s probably just the V6 in non-First Edition trim.

ETA: it does seem to be the 4-cyl with more power but also seems to be more driven by other markets.

Yeah it is odd, it even appeared in Aus press three days before I noticed the news article in my google feed.

Seeing a few complaints on the Lotus forum about small paint bubbles developing over time - on the doors specifically.

Fix has apparently been applied in manufacturing during 2023, and Lotus are fitting new doors to earlier affected cars under warranty. Not ideal though…

I have heard that - also seen suggestions it doesn't affect yellow cars which were the only non-metallic finish on the First Editions.
I've also seen people talking of 12+ months' wait to get the doors replaced.

Still, the corrorsion affecting Alpine A110s (on top of the fuel pump issue) still makes the Emira look pretty solid in comparison.

Why does it need an entire new door rather than a respray?

Something is reacting with the paint over time - no issue when you buy the car. Presumably just repainting won't be effective.

Apparently the fix (may be more than one?) deployed in manufacturing included a different primer.

Because that's how Lotus are offering to fix them under warranty. Looking at the complaints about respray work on A110s to fix the corrosion on those, it's probably better for the customer experience - other than the wait.

Also you’d assume the primer is used on other panels beside just the doors. Maybe they’re a different material though. I thought the whole car bodywork was made from plastic though.

Doors already in production + fitting time I imagine is cheaper than paying for a respray.

Along with the aforementioned potential issues with primer.

Couple of Emira's trundling around Melbourne, they do look fantastic in amongst all the trucks and SUBs. Not sure an Evora wouldn't look equally as fantastic though

If it was only the doors then I would imagine the problem is potentially with the structure of the door itself, maybe a dodgy batch or resin or some sort of process failure, because usually all the external panels are hung on a jig in the orientation they sit on the car, and all painted together so there aren’t variations in shade or the way the metallic sits.

The panels are all kept together until the cars start final assembly and are tagged and put near the stations where they’re bolted on.

They seem to sell within days at sub-£60k so you’d assume the number of calls he gets would mean it’ll be corrected quickly. Buy it if that is the price.

That's Jr. - I'm not fully aware of what's what but I thought Jr. had distanced himself and was considered ok? I've probably got it the wrong way round
