Do you give any credence to the view that lockdown restrictions being removed has caused an increase in infections (Big number yesterday 3k odd) ) but existing social distancing and the addition of facemasks mean that new people being infected are getting much lower doses and tend to be younger meaning recovery is the outcome. Only 2 new deaths reported yesterday ?

That's exactly the theory I've read a few times over the weekend.

Hopefully, but it'll take weeks for the number of deaths to increase on the back of the increased cases.

You can add to the above list that they're getting better at treating as well though, that will improve the death numbers.

Treatment doesn’t really seem to count, as part of the Leicester spike there were zero deaths and I believe no one was even hospitalised with it either, so no one was treated. Even though the infected all seemed to be from sweat shops where there was no social distancing (and probably no masks as it predated the mandate for them). It’s more likely that as they were younger more healthy that were infected that they were just no impacted by it in the same way the the elderly and co morbidity lot were.

That's exactly the theory I've read a few times over the weekend.

I think the reduction in deaths is a number of things. The Government changed it so that only deaths from within a 28 day positive test of COVID-19 now count. Younger people are getting it and surviving. There's a few effective treatments out there and there's more testing. I suspect from the months and months of treating Corona patients, the hospitals are getting better at treating people too.

I agree with Rich though, the spike is probably caused by people coming back from holiday with Corona and getting tested when they get back home. The jump in numbers very much coincides with the end of the summer holidays.

Hard to draw any real conclusion from testing unless you’re at the point where everyone who needs one can get one, then you start to draw a more accurate picture of where it’s flaring up.

The uks number of cases is still pretty low compared to the number of deaths compared with other countries.

I expect the number of cases back in late March when it was nearly impossible to get a test and they were only testing hospital admissions was many many times higher than the tests results show.

So the rule isn't changing, there's just more enforcement power now? But being able to gather in larger groups in the workplace, and the government encouraging us to return to the workplace to do that, makes a bit of a mockery of it.

They need to clamp down on people not wearing masks in supermarkets etc too, I'd say only about 60% of customers are wearing masks in my local supermarket now.

yeah, the mask thing is beginning to bug me. I've gone into Milton Keynes shopping centre a few times over the past few weeks (first time since March) but while most are wearing them, there's still far too many not wearing one.

Well, not so much - at home you're probably not separated by perspex screens with sanitisation stations at every door, with each seating position being two meters apart.

You know, assuming employers have taken it seriously - which obviously isn't guaranteed, and in some cases, less practical, etc.

There was a chap on the Angry People In Local Newspapers FB page yesterday who was in the paper because he was kicked out of a bakers for not wearing a mask. Claims he has severe asthma.

On his instragram for his tradesmans page there is a pick of him in a full on respirator stating he takes health and safety seriously.

I'm sure there are people who have difficulty with masks - those with anxiety, on the autistic spectrum, etc. But I'll put a fiver on some 75% of people not wearing masks just being utter fucknuggets with no sense of empathy for others.

I suspect with people like that, it just comes down to them not liking "being told what to do". Bellends that they are.

But for many I think it's just a complete lack of thought - people live with their heads in the clouds. Our son's school have fairly extensive measures in place not only within the school environment but also in terms of drop-offs and pick-ups. They've repeatedly had to tell parents this last week when to drop off their kids and where they should be queuing. It all goes out the window at 08:30 because half the parents are so self-absorbed that being able to gossip with others is more important to them. No distancing, stood in the wrong places, walking in at the wrong times.

You are saying they are all the same - they are not. Don't be daft here, the public grade coverings arent the same .

So you're saying a physical barrier in front of the mouth and nose (where the virus is shed via) does nothing at all to stop the virus being shed by the wearer...?

Why do we all cover our mouths with our hands when we cough then - surely we should either not bother or all be wearing medical grade face coverings all the time?
