Their backup is to simply cancel the swim leg, turning the event into a duathlon, which is a complete joke. Swimming is the most technically challenging part of a triathlon and removing it could completely change the event outcome and potential winner.

To me that shouldn't be even on the table for the reasons you describe. The back up option should be another venue that's tried and tested for triathlons.

It’s carnage this morning!! Lot of the course is cobbles so crashes aplenty…

Yeah, total carnage! Terrible for those that went down, although looking good for GB right now.

Enjoyed that, valiant effort, but you can't bet against a Parisienne on the streets of Paris.

Must admit, I am really enjoying this games far more than any I can remember. Probably mostly down to the lack of time difference.

Yeah, I dunno what happened in 2012, I was living in London and working in Silvertown IIRC, but somehow it passed me by a little bit. I remember the road closures being annoying for getting to get materials into work!

I think I was just focused on different things in life, and didn't really watch a great deal of it or make the effort to attend any events.

Has anyone been able to activate Discovery Plus on sky this week ??

BBC coverage is shocking with just random sports selected and only 1 alternative on iPlayer. I get Discovery Plus free as we have TNT sports but every attempt to activate results in generic "We can't do that now - try later"

Someone asked me the same Q and ironically during 2012 I was on my anti-sports yoga spiritual phase, so watched almost none of the coverage except Chris Hoy. All despite the fact I lived in central London at the time!

I'd almost given up watching that as I thought Wilde had it, but looked up and Yee was only a few yards behind!

Yeah, that was mental. Wilde seemed to be cruising, then out of nowhere Yee was right up there with him from seemingly being out of touch. Brilliant.

And now the women's quad skulls - nicked it at the line!

Mad result, a yard shorter or longer and the Dutch would have won it on the surge but Britain won it.

When Wilde took that 14-second lead and Yee had completely failed to close it for 3 laps I was resigned to it simply not being Yee's day. I've not seen any interviews so no idea if Yee simply was able to dig a little deeper in the final sprint or if Wilde had completely done himeself earlier. Either way, what a brilliant race, so tactical. It's also really interesting to watch at this level, because most amateur events are no-draft for the swim and ride, whereas these guys need to be so much more strategic.

Amazing women's quad race too, is the new GB Olympic team strategy to take everything in the closing part of the race? Yee, Quad sculls, Pidcock etc

The women did really well, amazing how they just managed to take it on the line. Their surge at the end, combined with Dutch coming forward for the catch (which slows their boat momentarily) was sheer luck but hey, that's racing. Also love to see the the quads sculls doing well, they were my boat when I was rowing, so have a lot of great memories of racing them.
