He doesn't exactly sound enthused - 'accelerates like all EVs do', 'very smooth and neutral' etc.
Naturally, on the Paul Swift ride, the already rampant that’s-never-a-Capri controversy raised its head. People kept poking their heads into our windows to tell us so.

My view: of course it’s a Capri. Ford can call it what they like. And they’d never have raised so much consciousness of a simply styled, nicely proportioned car any other way.

[...]

If there was a mis-step, it might have been the advertising promise that The Icon was returning. It isn’t. This is a different, much bigger car with a pleasantly familiar name.
Thanks for confirming it was a cynical marketing ploy and not actually related to the Capri, in any way, at all, other than to get eyes on it.

Quite. I bet there wouldn’t have been a fraction of the social media content about it if it had had a random generic name. May as well use one from the past they already have the rights to use and know it’ll get posted all over the internet.

It's also a commitment that they'll not be making a small lightweight-ish EV any time soon.
How about not having a sig at all?

I don't know if it's good or bad that they have at least included nods to the Capri in the front ens and the C pillar swoop.

That's true, but in a case like this I'd love to see if any of it translates into a sale. Having publicity is good, but nostalgic stuff like this only really works if there's something appealing about the end product which specifically harks back to the original.

But I guess your marketing guys can say "job done" with Capri trending and all that bobbins.
Cheers,

Mike.
