Marmite

Next you’ll be saying you like gherkins….
Gherkins are fucking lush.
Get Polish ones if you can. The Poles make the best Gherkins
Weirdly the first couple of bites of the gherkin are the best. All downhill after that.
strange sexual undertones to this post...

I'm going to double down and not only say "all the olives", pitted or unpitted, but also yes to the dirty martini (dirty vespa is actually my martini of choice), and yes to all the brines and pickling liquors (vinegar from pickled onions is the best on chips, the oil from sun-dried tomatoes is a great general flavour-enhancer, but particularly good for finishing cous-cous, the brine from shellfishy stuff makes a great base for a seafood sauce).
But then I like pretty much *everything*

Oddly I like all Marmite flavoured things but not Marmite itself. It's hugely outperformed on all levels by Bovril.
What's happened to us Swerv?

We've drifted apart.
I really like Marmite on toast, and whilst I can eat it in stuff like crisp and nut flavours I see them as sub-par to many other flavours.

It’s not even 09:00 and I am already thinking
1. Ooh - could get a Chippy tonight
2. Is it OK for breakfast to consist solely of Haywards picked onions? (Sweet variety - I’m not an animal

Perfectly acceptable, as long as you don't have to physically interact with any other actual human beings for the rest of the day

Correctness. I find that many of the "British" varieties are too sweet.
A favourite sandwich is extra mature cheddar, gherkins, mayo and mustard.
I'm a sucker for gherkins, love them. And drink the pickle juice when you've eaten them all - it's good for you.

I'll eat an entire jar of sweet picked onions without stopping

so yeah, go for it
I've been in a calorie deficit for a few weeks to slim down and fit into an old suit, the mention of a chippy tea is making my mouth water

I used to love Marmite Duncs, until I was about 7/8, when my Dad introduced us to Bovril. It was like some sort of Holy awakening. And then I went right off Marmite. Even if I taste it now I can't help but think, "Bovril would be far better in this application". Apart from on Marmite flavoured things - they would be quite wrong if Bovril flavoured.

I might have to try this Bovril stuff, but sadly the wife is vegan and likes Marmite so even if I like it I might have stick to Marmite so as not to clutter the cupboards.

Picked egg
Drop it into a bag of salt and vinegar
Mush it all up together
Scoop it into your gob
Not had a pub pickled egg in ages. Must do that again.

That's a tricky situation Duncs. I can well imagine that spreading liquid beef all over your toast in the morning might not prove popular, not least as it works best when you have a slick of melted butter to spread it over.

You'd do well to remember that I hate butter too, that's a non-issue in our household.

Thankfully she's not a judgey vegan, she does leave the room when I'm butchering a bit of meat for the bbq though!

Olives winning 14-11, which is roughly 52-48%. I think you'll find this closes the argument and removes the possibility of the forum's stance on olives being discussed again.

We can discuss it for a fair few years yet, at least until mik resigns

I‘ll prepare our official food policy on the matter and send out press releases.
