I need to give Solo another go. There was a bunch of people in the house when we watched it so we weren't giving it enough attention, the only bit that really stood out for me was Donald Glover as Lando.

We watched Birdbox and though it was alright, decent cast and it built a good atmosphere. I hated the ending though.

Finally got around to Avengers - Infinity wars yesterday - Too much going on all together, it felt like vignettes from 3 or 4 different films, interspersed with some humourous link scenes...

Not their best

I liked Infinity War but it had the problem that a couple of other Marvel movies had where it feels like they had a lot of stuff to get through so there's a lot happening without a lot of explanation. Two Towers has the same thing in LoTR.

It relies on you having seen and remembered a lot from the other movies to make sense.

Barry wrote: Tue Jan 01, 2019 3:57 pm Bought "Antman and the Wasp" at the weekend, gotta say it was a decent flik if you like superhero/character movies. The usual Marvel humour present, some good some a bit flat, and Evangeline Lily is a stone cold fox, which is nice.
I’m not a superhero fan at all, but I watched Antman the other day and i really enjoyed it, and not just because Evangeline Lily is in it.
Same. Much of the Marvel stuff bores the pants off me but this was alright - Paul Rudd works well in it, and it made a lot of sense when I saw that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish wrote it, with Rudd and McKay then tweaking it. I re-watched Iron Man as well, and I've come to wonder whether it's just the character intro movies that are better than the sequels (which are just too action heavy).

The Revenant - Gripping at the start then I got a bit bored tbh. Picked up towards the end, but on the whole I can't see what the fuss was about.

Mandy - Watched this just before Christmas when the wife was out. Utterly bat-shit. And I really enjoyed it. But then I love films in this genre, and am a fan of Cage when he's doing deranged or silly roles (largely his early stuff but he seems to be getting back into it).

Aquaman kinda almost pulled off the in love with its own silliness thing that made Antman and Ragnarok great. But not quite, the bad guys were so crudely and hastily sketched out you could still see the dotted outline.

Had its moments but not great overall.

Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie, Solo a very close second.
David Yu will be along to splutter about Empire Strikes Back shortly.

Don't need DYu to to say what everyone already knows TESB is the best although Rogue one isn't bad. Solo I've already forgotten it was that generic.

He did have a point. You are an argumentative cunt. ;) You're not quite as bad as one of my deceased relatives who would change his position on any topic to get an argument going.

Incidentally, my favourite insult at the moment is "I'd call you a cunt but you lack the depth and warmth". 8-)

What Happens in Vegas

Terrible*

Game Night

Surprisingly good. You remove your brain for the viewing, but then realise three quarters of the way through that you needed it in after all. A few twists and turns and a lot of laughs. 7.5/10

*Only viewed because I've just watched it on the plane to Vegas and it felt appropriate.

You didn’t watch as many films as I did on the flight to Vegas. Was joining the mile-high club quite an extended thing?

Tully
Spoiler
A sort of Fight Club for housewives, except instead of becoming an anarchist Charlize Theron becomes a normal person instead of a tired mum. Theron is actually superb in it, to be fair, but it’s a slow film in which not much happens and husbands are made out to be idiots that go to work and then come home and play XBox, ignoring their obviously depressed spouse and unusually obedient kids (even the one that is autistic whose only symptom is tantrums and specific plot points).

Bad Times at El Royale

It was alright, decent cast but the story was a bit all over the place. Felt like one of those movies where all the people were just there to pay the bills but I enjoyed it.

A definite 6 out of 10 movie.
