I personally feel these sub 2 year sentences for non fatal strangulation seems light given the outcome could be so different in minutes or even seconds!

That's terrible, I had noticed the tone of his twitter output get darker earlier in the year but didn't think it would end up like that.

Yesterday, Chris Pollitt was sentenced to 23 months in jail for almost killing his partner. This is someone I once considered a friend, though an incident just over a year ago gave us an insight into the real Pollitt and it was not good.

We then had to watch on while he played the mental health card, convincing many people to part with money in a Just Giving fundraiser (albeit he didn't start it) while making his partner look like the problem. She was not allowed to defend herself against the rogue rants that he posted online (and often deleted so he could claim it never happened later on).

She and we had to watch on while her reputation was effectively dragged through the mud, accused of not being supportive enough, of banishing him to the garage. Then he started complaining that he somehow needed more money. I believe he found ways to acquire it. Many people were suckered.
He was charged earlier this year, not that you would have known it from his social media pages where it was 'normal' progress. He was up to unsavoury things during the year too, sending inappropriate messages to many females online.

Which is why the sentencing yesterday came as such a relief. It brought to an end a painful year. We could see bad things coming but I don't think we ever imagined things would get as bad as they did. We tried to do what we could but Pollitt is (or rather was) very good at keeping The Police at bay. Saying what they wanted to hear to be on their way.

I hope beyond hope that his former partner can move on with her life. She deserves far better. There are charities to support people in such positions. It is not normal. It is not acceptable.

I hope also that it won't invalidate the very real issue of men's mental health. Plenty of people have very real struggles without feeling the need to lay a finger on another human. It is ok to not be ok. It is not ok to blame emotions for violence.
