I ruled the Emira out as soon as I learned it was 120mm wider than my Cayman. :(

I’d still have an Emira. Domestic/parking situation dependent, maybe in a year or two.

V6, haven’t decided on colour/trim or manuel/auto.

And I think they have achieved their aim of Porschifying it by making it usable as one.

Not sure why there seems to be such a wave of negativity about the Emira online. Not here particularly but there are some odd criticisms in the PH thread.
I get the impression it's because the Evora had it's niche; 2+2 with a bit of rawness/basic-ness that kinda sat in the gap between the raw Elise and the refined Cayman, and was far cheaper than 911 which also had 2+2.

Now it's just a Lotus Cayman, without the same build quality.

So all the Lotus nerds are moaning about how they're sticking with the Evora, and the everyman is still buying Cayman. Meanwhile people like me are sitting here waiting for the prices to drop a bit more.

Nobody is being really effusive about the Emira (other than its looks, and you don't need a review to tell you it looks amazing). But Lotus have given them to Youtubers rather than traditional media - Autocar hasn't had one to do a full road test for instance - so it's not really promoting the Emira very well. In contrast, listening to Porter on Smith & Sniff this week waxing lyrical about the Boxster GTS 4.0 got me thinking that would be a better buy. Bit disappointed to hear that the 992T didn't ride as well; the 992 does come with PASM as standard.

New video up and its the 718 Spyder RS…. 4 litre engine revving to 9000 8-)

Are these available for anyone to buy or are they one of those which will be sold out already and be flipped before you know it?

I think you know the answer to that Mike.

But… the 4.0 GTS has the same basic engine and a roof which actually works. The Spyder roof is stupid.

Oh of course it is, especially in the UK!

I’ve totally lost track of Porsche models, so genuinely didn’t know if this was one of those halo models which will never be available to buy.

I think Harry was a bit ambiguous - he said at the start that you can’t buy it but at the end said it wasn’t limited. I didn’t think you could buy one but maybe you could - if lucky - get an order slot?

The Spyder is definitely my favourite RS model. I even thought it looked good, because I’m a chav

All of that. The 4.0 is hugely attractive. That roof is just ridiculous.

I haven't watched the video yet, but is the spider hugely lighter than a normal boxster? Unless it's 200kg lighter I'm not sure I see the point of the compromise.

Spyder is a smidgeypoo over 1400kg. Harry mentions that with the optional magnesium wheels and carbon brakes you might get it to dip below 1400....

Probably about £1000/kg difference. Take a bigger shit.

Edit: £2000/kg in fact. 1435kg plays 1410kg.

Spyder does have rather more powers than the 4.0 GTS though, so we need a £/kg/bhp metric that also factors in the time to erect the roof.

0-100-0 including erecting the roof at the start and dropping it again at the end

For 25kg difference, I really can't see the point in all the hassle of the spyder roof.
